In need of some input...
Greetings All,
I recently received a check that I wasn't expecting and after I give my wife her half (because I'm cool like that), I wanted to buy a new toy for the safe. I don't want to spend more than $650 and I already have an XD-45c. The guns that first popped into mind were the following: HK P7M8 - $600 at Military Gun Supply in Ft.Worth Colt .38 spl Detective Special II - I would need a 9mm to do some horse trading. Saiga 20 gauge - $650 at Military Gun Supply in Ft.Worth I have been watching other recent threads and have expanded my wish list to a Mini-14 or a Baby Eagle. Ideally I would like a Sig 556, but that is a bit too far out of my budget. I already have a few core pieces for my collection. If I go with a pistol, I would like it to have an external hammer, safety and decocker. I would also prefer the gun to be high capacity in design; this is my main quarrel with the P7M8. I did have a USP-40 compact. I wasn’t a very efficient shot, (for some reason I am not a good shot with a .40s&w) with it so I swapped it for my XD and have no regrets; the XD is a wonderful piece. However, I would like another H&K, but just to have one; not specifically for carry. I understand the odds of finding another H&K USP full size or compact, in .45 ACP this time, are rather slim for the price I want to spend. I paid $650 for the .40, but it took a lot of time and shopping all over the state. Hmmm…maybe I’ll just go with a 9mm Hi-Power. I have given more thought to choices in handguns than I have to rifles, and with the strong possibility of a shift in the political leadership of our country, I would just like some other people’s opinions on this subject. What would be some good choices for rifles as well as pistols?

Double check on the P7M8. If it is indeed an M8, with the traditional placement of the mag release, give them $600 and RUN! That would be a steal of a lifetime on a P7M8.
If it has a European heel mounted mag release, it is a regular P7, which is still a great gun for the money. There are a ton of German police trade-in P7s on the market right now. I picked up one of these used P7s last year and I will never part with it. |

Check the FNP line of pistols. You may like what you see and you get a lot for your money in the process.

If you go with a handgun consider a CZ type or clone.
The CZ SP-01 is a nice choice The P-01 is a great all around pistol that CCW's super nicely but is deadly accurate at distance too for range play. I'm jonsing for an AR-25 15C: AR24-15C-Armalite AR24-15C Full Size 9mm Tactical Custom And my favorite gun to shoot since I bought it is my EAA Witness (Tangfolio) Elite Match .45 but you can get it in 9mm, 38 Super, .40, .45 and 10mm. I paid $489 for mine - SA trigger with pre and over travel adjust that feels as good as a 1911, fully adjustable rear sight, polygonal match grade barrel, high capacity and super well built. A super accurate gun: ![]()

Gun Show this weekend...
I appreciate yall's input. I think I am leaning towards the P7; it does have the heel type mag release. Ever since I was a kid, that model pistol has has been on my wish list. I did also consider the Witness, I have shot my father's .38 super and I was suprised how well it handled compared to his Kimber in the same caliber. As far as bang for your buck, I've been told any CZ 75 or clone would be a good choice. I wonder why the .38 Super doesn't have a bigger following?
There is a gun show this weekend at the Will Roger's Coloseum in Ft.Worth, I think I'm going to check that out. Once again, thanks all.
