This is a great site, you should check it out. Be sure to swing by UtahConcealedCarry.Com :: Index as well!

With a Permit you can CC and OC locked and loaded, even on UTA, TRAX and school zones.

BACK ON TOPIC -- I recently heard on another forum that the Fobus paddle holsters hold "really, really tightly", tightly enough to make drawing from the holster when not on your hip quite difficult. Can anyone confirm/deny this?
I didn't know you were from Utah. I had heard about zome of those laws, but hadn't ever seen em "on paper". Its good to know it wasn't just hear say. Have a good night. Thanks for the links.

The "Holdster"

http://artofthehide.com/index.html

The FTB-BATF classified the Holdster design as
non-any other weapon (or not a wallet holster)
primarily because it is "readily discernible as a
weapon" due to the exposed slide. As long as it
isn't modified to conceal the weapon over the slide
it is legal to own and use in conjunction with a
semi-automatic pistol without falling in the AOW
classification.

This is surprisingly correct. Wallet holsters that entirely conceal the gun but allow it to be fired require payment of the Federal $200 tax and $5 transfer fee. Here is the Federal code:

Quote:
§ 5845. Definitions
For the purpose of this chapter—
(a) Firearm
The term “firearm” means
(1) a shotgun having a barrel or barrels of less than 18 inches in length;
(2) a weapon made from a shotgun if such weapon as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches or a barrel or barrels of less than 18 inches in length;
(3) a rifle having a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length;
(4) a weapon made from a rifle if such weapon as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches or a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length;
(5) any other weapon, as defined in subsection (e);
(6) a machinegun;
(7) any silencer (as defined in section 921 of title 18, United States Code); and
( a destructive device. The term “firearm” shall not include an antique firearm or any device (other than a machinegun or destructive device) which, although designed as a weapon, the Secretary finds by reason of the date of its manufacture, value, design, and other characteristics is primarily a collector’s item and is not likely to be used as a weapon.

(sections b-d removed)

(e) Any other weapon
The term “any other weapon” means any weapon or device capable of being concealed on the person from which a shot can be discharged through the energy of an explosive, a pistol or revolver having a barrel with a smooth bore designed or redesigned to fire a fixed shotgun shell, weapons with combination shotgun and rifle barrels 12 inches or more, less than 18 inches in length, from which only a single discharge can be made from either barrel without manual reloading, and shall include any such weapon which may be readily restored to fire. Such term shall not include a pistol or a revolver having a rifled bore, or rifled bores, or weapons designed, made, or intended to be fired from the shoulder and not capable of firing fixed ammunition.
I think it's ridiculous but it is what it is. In my opinion, the Holdster violates one of the main purposes of a holster which is to guard the trigger against being snagged thereby causing an accidental discharge. This is particularly important in a DAO gun like the P3AT where there is no other manual safety.

I just ordered one of these for my Ruger LCP. Ordered direct from Desantis for more money, should have read the entire thread first. I'll let you know what i think when it arrives.

Be sure to let me know what you think. I've been meaning to grab me one but hadn't ever been able to find one in person to see what it's really like. I'll take your word for it though.

Hey guys/gals he's not looking for a wallet/pocket holster. It's for his significant other that can't fit it in her pockets.

My wife is leaning towards the Desantis Pop-up holster, I would also love to hear a review when you get it Reeek!

We are picking up the Fobus E2 Paddle for her tonight and she will be OC until she gets her permit.
