Very dissapointed with new Colt 04860XSE LW Commander

I picked this pistol up from a member here.

Another Colt botch job.

Pistol refused to function with the included mags. In fact none of the 4 1911 frames functioned with those mags.

Then the set screw for the rear sight would shoot loose every 10-15 rounds.

Many people would have thought they had a bad gun. I merely switched mags and it would go bang every time I pulled the trigger. But the sight thing really has me wondering.

Do I hear a need for Loctite?

The pistol has Novak type sights. There is a set screw in the center of the rear sight.

And it came with Colt branded SS mags.

Just curious if the seller disclosed these issues?

any setscrew on a firearm will require loctite to keep it in place.

And normally that Loctite is applied at the factory.

The gun was NIB. So how could the seller be aware of the crappy magazines?

Same thing happened on my brother's NIB Colt Commander. It was the Stainless version.

Does it function 100% with aftermarket mags? How does it group?

If it works fine...I'd order more aftermarket mags and call it good. The Colt mag that came with my 1973 Combat Commander was junk as well. I even replaced the innards with a new follower and a Wolff spring and it was better but still tried to double feed. Wilson 47Ds have been 100% in it so I am not all that distressed.

The rear sight? Well, Lock-tite can fix that. I am not big on pistol sights that are adjustable (unless its on a target/range gun only). They're just too delecate and fussy - even the more expensive ones...I won't have them on a working 1911 ever. A set of Kings Hardball sights would look sweet on a Commander and are less hassle and not that expensive. My 1953 Govt Model wears those and they have been trouble free for about 10 years.

I don't think you have a lemon there...just needs a few tweaks to be good. Welcome to Colt 1911s! Seriously, though, once you work the small bugs out of a Colt 1911 (and every one I have owned has had SOME issue) they're really good shooters.
