Hk45 / Usp45
I "need" another .45 and I'm thinking about getting one or the other of these H&Ks. From what I read, H&K uses polygonal rifling. So is it a bad idea to shoot cast bullets in these guns?
I shoot a lot of cast bullets in my XD-40 and it loves them. So do my 1911 and P245. Thanks. |

Welcome aboard, Mike.
While I dunno about the cast bullet thing (ask a Glock guy) I can tell you that the HKs are phenominally accurate guns. I was testing one at work and was routinely hitting a .45 ammo box at 40 yards with a HK USP .45 Compact.

The poly-bores have a rep of building up lead deposits. Don't personally know if it's true but it gets a lot of play on the forums.

You shouldn't shoot lead bullets out of an HK or a GLOCK due to the polygonal rifling. GLOCK manuals state this specifically. I shot a box of lead rounds out of my 20C (which I later traded in for a 20), and there was lead "welded" to the ports on the slide.
I haven't read the manual for my Mk 23, but I'm next to positive that lead bullets are a no-no for HKs, too. |

Thanks
For the info and the welcome. Yep, I figured that cast bullets would not be recommended in the H&Ks, for the same reason that they are not a good idea in Glocks. I was standing next to a guy who had a Glock KB - he was shooting cast bullets in .45 ACP. We never found some of the pieces of his gun!
Maybe I'll get another XD. I kinda like that idea. |
