Thompson Center Encore

Looking for opinions on these. I've been planning on a Ruger #1 by hunting season but I saw some of these on clearance, minus the barrel. I like the idea of being able to shoot black powder, shotgun, rimfire, or pretty much any centerfire I want. How easy are they to customize or accessorize? I've run into turkey before while out deer hunting and thought it would be neat to have a shotgun barrel along. I'm not sure how feasible that would be though, or how much of a "quick change" a barrel swap would be. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks, Chris Barnes.

they never really apealed to me but it is a cool idea
i main argument is why waste a perfectly good justification for buying a new gun on a barrel. but i do see the point of it being convenient but it seems like it wouldnt be very practical to change barrels in the middle of a hunt. first of all most people leave their camp to go hunting and bringing an extra barrel and ammo seem like a pain in the a$$
I would much rather have two guns then 1 gun and two barrels, but carring two guns isnt very practical either

I have a encore with muzzleloader barrel on it they are great and easy to change to a rifle, muzzleloader, shotgun, and pistol and can be accessorized any way you want to but I do not believe you can shot rimfire only centerfire .

Well, I did see that they had .17 and .22 rimfire barrels, but maybe they were for a different system? How easily does the barrel pin (?) come out? I wish they had one that stayed with action, like AR pins, but if your careful it probably isn't that big of a deal. Thanks for the input.

I love my TC Encore pistol. I have two barrels--.308 win and .223. They are both 15" and extremely accurate. I don't have the 223 scoped yet (it's still pretty new), but I have a Burris 3-12X on the 308. 2 screws and the forend removes allowing you to remove the hinge pin. Mine doesn't require any tools to remove but it won't fall out either. There are tons of accessories, my favorite new accessory is a Pachmayr forend. My 308 will hold moa accuracy for me out past 300 yards when I do my part. This is all I have hunted big game with since 2000 and have half a dozen mule deer, a couple of elk, coyotes, and prairie dogs to show for it.

My Uncle has the Pistol version with a 7-30 waters barrel. That is a handful in the recoil department, but a very accurate pistol.

I'm also interested in getting an Encore Pistol in .223 or .308.
Could you post some Pictures, Please?
-Also, whats it like shooting the .308 in a pistol?

Thanks in advance,

The "Yuppie Killer"

I'll post pics as soon as I can--might take a day or two though.

The 308 was intimidating at first but once I learned how manage the recoil I can shoot it all day. I've put close to 800 rounds through it so I'm pretty used to it. I used to use shooting gloves, but I can shoot better with bare hands or thin leather gloves. I sometimes still put a shooting glove on my support hand 'cause every once in a while the trigger guard bites it. The 223 is a pussycat to shoot.

BTW the deer in my avatar was taken with my encore.

Here's my encore with the .223 Barrel

Here it is with the .308 Barrel with Burris scope

The Pachmayr forend has a sling swivel so I can put my bipod on.

I originally bought the gun with wood grip and forend. They looked great but the grip was a little large for my hand. The TC grip fits me better and it has a backstrap designed to absorb recoil better--definately works.

Yeah, I think I'm going to get one. Initial cost with it being on sale is a very accurate rifle for under 500 bucks. Thats hard to beat, especially when you can essentially have another accurate rifle in any caliber you want for 2-3 hundred bucks. I've found a little more info on it in the last couple of days and it looks like there is quite a bit of custom stuff you can do too, which I like. The bi-pod was one of the first things I thought about WyoXD. Thanks for the input guys!
