The new ammunition you mentioned will increase the effective range.

Good buy on a great rifle. I own three Marlin lever guns, two Winchesters and a Savage. I love lever actions. Currently, I am trying to track down a decent early Marlin 39 lever 22 for my daughter.

Since you're coming to Texas, you now have a great wild pig gun and around San Antonio...you'll need it!

I have a marlin 336 and love it. Mine came with a flip-up rear sight, which was made of plastic and I broke it within an hour of getting the gun. If yours has this sight I suggest you call marlin and tell them you want them to send you the sight that doesn't flip up, they'll take care of you.

I was wondering that too, anyone have reports on the Levereveloution ammo?

I'm so effing jealous. I wanted a lever-action .30-30 mighty hard.... but I had to compromise with the wife and get a lever-action .22 instead. Not that I regret it -- it's a sweet rifle -- but I still want a .30-30. Some day.

I'd assume with a tube magazine , that pointy nosed bullets would be sitting right on the primer of the round in front of it. Could be why.

weird, I didn't know they made anything than the flat tops and round tops prior to levereveloution.

Combine the Marlin 30/30 along with the Levereveloution ammo, you will end up with a love match for life. The deer and black bears will hate it though. At close range 150 yards and under it would be a good Elk gun also.

The admonition is mostly for reloaders who might think they can squeeze a little more performance out of the old "thuty-thuty" by using bullets intended for use in a .308 or .30-'06.

And yes, a pointed bullet sitting against a primer in a tubular magazine can cause the primer to go off under recoil.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I take possession of the .30-30 tomorrow morning, right before we head out on a fishing trip. It's going to be a great Saturday! When I get back, I'm swinging by Bass Pro Shops for some ammo - think I'll start with that Lever Evolution ammo and see how she likes it.
All the best,
Glenn
