Ok...I admit I am not up on Miami Vice...but I knew there was a 645 in there somewhere. The 4506 has a better grip that does not feel as squared off in the front as the 645. Most S&W semis are well made guns with good finishes. Trigger quality ona Smith auto varies greatly. Dad's 645 definately fits Jeff Cooper's name "crunchenticker" and is not my bag. However, it has been totally reliable. Dad prefers the M1911 over the 645 (probably because he carried it for 12 years in the USMC) but we both shoot the 645 every now and then.

CDNN now has tons of really nice S&W autos for sale at around 250-300 bucks. 5906s, 6906s, 4006s and others. All in good shape. I might pick up one of the 4006s. For 300 bucks...thats hard to pass up a decent stainless 40 with night sights.

I agree, the 4506 has a hard double action trigger pull and a very gritty single action trigger pull. Not conducive to tack driving but that is not what the pistol was made for. I have never really been a big fan of S&W autos but I just had to have this one as I was a big fan of Miami Vice in the mid 80s. There I go showing my age again.

Its 100% reliable and is beautify finished in stainless steel. Its a great shooter and looks great but as I have stated, its too big and too heavy for me to carry on a daily basis. In fact, holsters are hard to find for it as its been out of production for some time now.

I too am much more partial to the 1911A1 and I do carry a Springfield Armory 1911A1 Loaded on occasion however, at 40 ounces dry its not a lightweight pistol either.
