I'll step on it and ask "Why do you (or anyone) want a subcompact XD 45 ACP?" When worn properly, the only part that tends to "print" is the grip. Use of the compact model reduces the grip print while also providing an adequate grip to hold. I have a little Glock 26 - waste of a gun for both caliber and size. First thing I did was put a little grip extension on it so I could hold it effectively. So I extended the little grip reversing my ability to conceal it. I've seen some folks, with really big hands, do the same with a compact XD .45. Why get a subcompact that you cannot hold such that you have to add significant extension so you can hold it and a very small sight radius which is difficult to shoot accurately? Many (and I have done this too!) speak of having 2 XDs. One for carry / self-defense and one for accurate / competition shooting. When viewed objectively, does that make sense? Wouldn't you want your greatest accuracy to be when you need it most? I understand that there are modifications made to a competition gun that are not safe for carry such as light trigger pull, etc. I get that and it makes sense. My point is that one should expect a high level of accuracy from the gun they carry to save their life or the life of another. To this end, I have gone back to carrying my 2nd XD as I originally ordered it: compact grip and tactical slide. Chapie+ |

I have an XD 45 Compact that I can conceal carry in the summer depending what I am wearing, I prefer my xd 40SC. I am going to purchase a Taurus model 605 SS to carrt this summer as well like when fishing off the pier or just walking along the beach. What ever works for you.

For summer carry with total concealment those Baby Glocks are hard to beat.

If you want a really easy gun to conceal get one of those little .22lr revolvers from North American Arms see: North American Arms Or maybe a j-frame .38 Product: Model 642 Revolver Chapie+ |

The craftsman has many tools. BTW, I thought that the XD's were thinner than the glocks? I was also under the impression that the gun width and grip length were the two most important dimensions as far as concealment were concerned? I've been wrong before though. On another note, how much velocity would you lose per inch of barrel?

Low pressure cartridges out of short barrels aint so hot. Granted, Speer (and others) make JHP's with larger cavities that expand at the low velocities you get with short .45's, but your average shooter/chl holder is gonna stuff it with regular 230 gr.ers, and go on without the knowledge that their bullets will probably not fully penetrate or expand (standard 230 gr. hardball is hard pressed to get 700 fps. out of a 3" barrel).
