Taurus 651

Does anyone have this revolver in 357 mag. Im considering getting one for a hiking and backpacking gun. I like the idea that its small enough to fit in my pocket and it wont be seen by passing hikers. I also like the fact that it is somewhat affordible compaired to the S&W which Im very fond of beside the $550+ plus tag. Just looking for rants and raves about it and what people think. Thanks

I originally wanted the Taurus 651. However, as you will soon find, unless you want a used blued one you will be waiting a few months with no date on arrival. I noticed this when I went looking for one. After talking to a few people, everyone mentioned how the Taurus weighed 25oz. empty! I had overlooked that part and since I was more or less looking for a pocket revolver I really had no interest in purchasing a Taurus after that. Not only this, but once I started looking into the S&W .357's I realized that some of them come with XS Dot night sights! and then when I found the model with sights AND laser grips I had to bite. The overall gun weighs under 12 oz. empty. The finish is awesome. The quality of the gun is nice. And the backing of S&W is excellent. I spent about twice the cost of a Taurus in the end, but I was much happier with the firearm I purchased.

Got the 651 titanium model. Quite a recoil, but controllable. Ususally leave it in the safe and carry a PM9.

i have 651 in SS. Great gun! Best $300 I ever spent. Its my CCW for the most part, and goes just aboout everywhere with me!

Being SS, its bit heavier, there for shooting .357mag is bit easier then titanium model(only slight, however).
Could use slightly lighter DA trigger pull.
I'm planing to add laser grip for it as soon as I get some extra $$$.

Some people I ran in to at the local range dog on it, because its not S&W or other big name. But I can shoot more accurate then most people with gun that cost X2 as much.
Its like difference between Snapon and Craftsman.
Snapon sure is nice, but craftsman tools gets job done just as effectivly as snopon, but does it in 1/3 of cost.

Below are from 10yds, rapid fire, reload, then another rapid fire with winchester 145 gr. 357mag.
i say more then sufficient to be a great self defence gun!

....my hand was HURTING afterwords!
