I just bought one, a S&W 642 and I'm very happy with it. Easier to conceal than say a Glock 26 or XD9sc in a shorts pocket. ![]() ![]()

I am also thinking about a snubbie for a summer carry gun. I am looking at some of the charter arms though. The price tag is nice and supposed to be good guns.

I had a M&P 9mm and a .40 compact. I shoot glocks almost exclusively these days but the compact m&ps felt much better in my hand than the g26/27. I think that the glock has a better trigger but whatever practical accuracy adavantage that would have given it over the M&P was lost by poorer ergonomics (for me).
I never had problems with mine, the .40 was quite controllable and if you like the .40, thats what I would recommend. The rebate + 2 additional magazines (4 total) that smith and wesson is offering really makes it an attractive offer.

The Ruger LCP looks pretty cool from the pictures I have seen.

I went with the Kahr PM9 but considered Keltec and a few others like Para's carry. Kahr's are more $$$, I did not want to get round slower then 9MM +P out of a short barrel. The PM9 is super accurate I've been very suprised. A close friend just got his CCW and is in the same situation you are. He likes my Kahr and has taken it to the range several times but undecided. With +P the Kahr PM9 is a handful but will do the job when you need it to.
Remember Energy, Velocity, Penetration and Placement when selecting a weapon to carry. I carry my XD service during the summer IWB but it's so much easier and lighter to drop the Kahr into the back pocket and a spare mag in the other.
