Too many variables. Your hand size, magazine capacity, CCW?, safeties, etc... I have several for different purposes. I like my XD 9 SC for just about every occasion. Fits my hand well, reliable (no failures ever), shoots any ammo I have put through it, can use a 16 round magazine and is easy to shoot tight enough groups. For a pocket pistol I use both my Keltec 3AT and PF9. The PF9 is thiner and smaller than the XD and can be carried in front pocket of most pants with proper pocket holster.

Yes, what feels balanced in my hand may be uncomfortable in yours Oldnoob. But from my experiences, the XD9 service felt great in my hand. I ended up buying an XD9sc, and I'll agree with Bill's comments on it. I use 16 rd mags for HD and 10 rd mags with the Pearce finger ext when I carry it (which is everyday). My XD45 compact also fits my hand nicely (I guess all XDs do). I had a Sig 229 that fit my hand very well, other Sigs were comfortable as well. The Sig was a bit heavy, but very accurate, had a few FTF and FTE with it (in over 10 years). Glocks don't fit my hand to well. The back strap digs into my palm. They are great reliable guns though. My first gun was a Beretta 92, I never was very accurate with it. But it was my first handgun so I might have been the problem there. It was too large to CCW IMHO. For me the XD fits all of the following criteria; accuracy, grip fit, balance, reliability.

I love everything about my M9! (Shocking, considering my user name).

Yeah, I love the Hi-Power too, but for out of the box, grab and go reliability, I'd have to say the SIG P226 and Glock 17 are probably two of the best. I love the Beretta 92, but its too big and the safety is up on the sldie and sort of awkward. The P226 and G17 have smaller grips and are not as chubby.

I like the 19 but the G17 gives you just a tad longer sight radius, less muzzle flip and two more rounds for not alot more gun to carry around. The grip does not feel as stubby, either.
