Heat Shields on Remington 870's?
do the heat shields that are available on the market for the Remington 870's, fit on any of the 870 barrels?
also, how do they actually mount? does it require any drilling or tap setting? i am curious how one would work on my 870 18" barrel. help me if you can. thank you. |

I THINK they just clamp around the barrel, was looking at them for my Marine Magnum but they look kinda flimsy to me.

yea, i'm pretty sure they just sorta clamp on. there is tension in the steel, like a U shape and the tension alone is enough to keep it on the barrel...or should.
dunno though since I have vent rib and nothing cool like that fits mine |

I have heard from multiple people that the normal heatshields that you see require some modification to fit on the 870's. They're sort of a drop in / one size fits most product so if you're afraid of doing some modding of your 870 to make it work I'd pass.

Mine clamps onto the barrel near the chamber, has two screws to hold it tight towards the muzzle. No modifications necessary... I think it's from Tac-Star, don't remember exactly. It's all steel, and one thing I've noticed is that it scratches up the barrel quite a bit when I take it off for cleaning - yes, you have to remove it every time you clean the shotgun, at least if you're removing the barrel.
I'm gonna try to find out what I have and get back to you. |

Here it is. Ordered it from Cabela's too:
Cabela's -- TacStar Universal Barrel Shroud I didn't have any trouble installing it. It doesn't seem to interfere with the functioning of the gun (I also have a Tac-Star pistol grip forend, fyi). Just a pain in the butt to take apart for cleaning. |

just my opinion but...
stay away from the heat shield. I added one to my shotgun. It was on good and tight. After 3 days of Shotgun Operator course with my agency, i ditched that rattly piece of junk for the plain barrel. Now I have to live with the scratches from installing it.
