Carrying a Concealed Loaded Gun

I recently bought a Kahr CW-9 for a carry weapon. I was brought up and taught that gun safety is everything when handling a gun. I have been told that if you are not willing to carry a concealed weapon with a bullet in the chamber, then you would be better off not to carry at all. Having a gun with a bullet chambered is hard to do when you were brought up with safety, safety, safety.....
Just how safe is it to carry the Kahr CW-9 with a bullet chambered. The Kahr has no external safety. Can it discharge? I use an Uncle Mike's IWB holster.

the only way it's going to go off is if you pull the trigger.

It's about as prone to discharge as a nice double action revolver...ala Colt Python, Smith & Wesson, Ruger GP100, etc. That is to say...it is very safe. Always carry the gun in a holster that fully covers the trigger. When holstering the gun, put your thumb behind the hammer/slide and push it into the holster (notice I said push...not shove, slam, cram...but a controled smooth pusssshhhhhhh). If something gets into the trigger you will instantly feel the hammer moving back and know you need to STOP pushing. Gun safety IS everything when handling a gun, that is why the first rule of gun safety is TREAT EVERY GUN AS IF IT IS LOADED...so when you are handling a loaded gun you will not be doing stupid things like spinning it on your finger trying to look like a cowboy action hero.

I carry that same gun in a Desantis leather holster. I am very confident it will not fire unless I pull the trigger. Safety still applies when carrying, it is just a bit of a different kind of safety. I would say it is more awareness than anything else. The trigger pull is firmer on this gun due to the DAO action. That is why there is no other safety feature. Revolvers have been carried this way for decades without any problems. Carry with one chambered with confidence. I am new to guns and just got my CCW in Feb. I would not carry a gun without one chambered. Of all the threads that repeat themselves, this one is the one that still amazes me. The answers are always over overwhelmingly for carrying loaded and chambered. But it keeps coming up. I am not judging any one. I just think you need to be sure that you are ready to carry a loaded gun before you carry.

The safety on a gun will not replace the safety in your head...Engage that, and you will be alright.

Carrying with one in the chamber has been accomplished safely for years. An unloaded gun is, as others have said, an ammo storage device.

If you're worried about a discharge then go and get yourself a snap cap, carry around with a snap cap in the chamber for a few days and you'll become comfortable with the fact that your gun is not just going to "go off".

If no round in the chamber! It's called a "brick" to chuck at the BG.

Truer words have never been spoken. The Kahr is a verry safe design. I've been carrying a K-40 off and on for 7 years without a problem. A good holster helps a lot.
