Why is California so strict?
Why is California so strict on guns? For example , I hear that people can not have a Yugoslovian SKS if it has the grenade launcher attached. But all other states can . Also , I just got a new XD-9 and it has a big sticker on the box stating "High capcity weapon:not legal for sale in California" .
So why is this?

Guns are too scary for the left coast.

Because guns that hold over 10+1 apparently take on a life of their own and shoot arbitrarily by themselves.
I wish I really knew the answer. Other states are nearly as bad or worse though. Illinois, Wisconsin, and NJ come to mind. I'm sure there are others.

Because if left unchecked politicians will grab power by imposing stupid, paternalistic and futile laws.
BTW my Yugo SKS still has the grenade launcher; it just has a steel sleeve tac welded over it. So, if I had the desire, a dremel, and a re-bluing kit...

ah yes, New Jersey. Where hollowpoints will jump out of your safe and lodge themselves in the torsos of toddlers, while the FMJs sit quietly.

The Brady bill increased requirements for background checks for firearms purchases as I understand it. The Federal AWB in the 90s was responsible for the Mag caps. After that was repealed some states just left them in place. All this is my understanding, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

That one I can't answer. I only got reinterested in them in the last few years and by then the ban was gone.
