See, those are the people I want to be close to. I go toward, rather than away from them. :P

It's simple. Most anti-gun folks are liberals or politically left. California is full of lefties so they put people into power that share their views. Hence strong gun laws. The same goes for Mass, NY, IL, DC. Also the large cities with the biggest crime problems are the ones with the toughest gun laws. They don't think for a second that the tough gun laws are the "reason" for or contribute to the high crime. They just use it as an excuse to enact more gun control. It's a never ending circle that gets worse and worse. For instance; if they had a rash of sinking ships, they wouldn't think about why this is happening and try and fix the problem. They just totally do away with all ships.

That's another reason we have the electoral college--so that the highly populated areas don't get to dictate to the entire rest of the population.

Ah, but Frank, thats exactly what is wrong on the state level. Californias politics is run by the inner-city votes of LA, SF and SD. The conservatives in the smaller cities (like Bakersfield) and rural areas ARE at the political mercy of the leftys in the big cities.

NY is the same way. I know several very right-thinking folks in Rochester and Utica but NYC politics is what they live under for the most part. Sad, but true.

(...and God bless Texas)

Bingo! But LA and SF are running the show. San Diego is still pretty conservative.
