I have a question that I want some different people's opinions on. As my CHL (hopefully) is nearing its arrival date, I would like to know what all you guys that pocket carry do when you get into vehicles. Do you take it out of pocket and stow it somewhere safely in the vehicle? Do you leave it in your pocket (even if its your primary, in these hot summer months)? Or what other things do you do with said pocket pistol since drawing from a pocket while sitting has to be incredibly slow.
Thoughts?

I don't pocket carry excpet for rare instances on the bike but when in my Jeep or the wife's car it goes in the door pocket. I need to mount my XDGEAR holster to the dash of one of them.

I drive a Tundra pickup with a 60/40 split bench seat.
When ever I get in the truck my XD9sc goes out of my holster and in between the seats, right there by my right knee cap. Otherwise it goes in the lockable glove compartment if I cannot carry, which is rare.

I've seen it done but still not sure about it. I just want to make sure that on those days that I only pocket carry my S&W 442 that it remains accessible while I'm driving around town...should I just get a holster and keep it in the side door panel or the center console then? (I am right handed, and I drive a 2007 Toyota Camry that does have a center console in it)

I leave it in my pocket. I always have a 1911 in the door pocket anyway.

At the moment weather dictates wearing a coat, so I carry on the "inside" pocket of my leather one all the time.
But I also have lockable compartments in both my vehicles. A factory drawer in the wife's van w/family outtings, and I self-mounted/secured a top-open padded loc-box under the flip forward seat in the center console of my truck - which is my primary daily vehicle. When summer roll's around I'll be re-thinking just how I plan to carry. Most likely OWB w/cover shirt. I'm looking at a Don Hume 721 OT or a Highnoon Bare Skin for the XD9sc.....but I'm also looking into a custom leather holster made locally thru my FFL dealer. Should be here by the end of the month. Find what works for you. I'm still exploring different options myself. My 2¢ ahhhh.......neeeed more coffee...........

Every state has a different law on how a carry piece must be handled in a vehicle. In OH, you must have a CCW permit, and the weapon must be holstered, and on your person.
Depending on your vehicle, and personal size will dictate what works best for you. For me, I'm right handed, fill up my bucket seats, so the seatbelt is always an obsticle for me. I use a Fobus paddle most of the time, because it is easier to shift it for clearance, with the seat belt and my body. I really think a cross draw holster would work best in the car for me, unfortunately, I carry several different pieces pending on how I'm dressed, so it would cost a fortune to have a cross draw for each piece. The least hassle I have found is a Galco ankle holster for my J frame. |
