Exclamation Problems with my Ruger Mark III 22/45! NEED HELP

Okay, my Ruger Mark III 22/45 has been giving me some problems lately.

One day after shooting about 100rnds through it I disassembled (which I've done many, many times before), cleaned, and began reassembly but the main mainspring housing assembly wouldn't slide all the way up through the frame for some reason... I let my dad take a look at it and he thought he "fixed" it.

Turns out this wasn't the case. I was about to go shoot it again and realized the safety wouldn't move from the firing position. Anyways, a few weeks went by trying a few different things and to shorten things I'll just get to it.

...I got the gun back together but the bolt is no longer as smooth and sticks when wracked back. Once I noticed this I tried to take it back apart, but now the mainspring housing assembly is stuck in the fame and I can only pull it out about a quarter of an inch.

I know this is a pretty complex issue, but does this sound familiar to anyone out there who may have owned a Mark III 22/45??? If I can't figure this out I'm not even going to take it to a gunsmith and will probably just try selling it "as-is."

I don't have the Mark III but when the slide sticks on my 22/45 the main spring did not go together right. I take it back apart and assemble again until it works. I think that the additional steps that you need to pay attention to is the magazine safety stuff that I get to avoid.

Ive done the exact same thing once before, its definitely the mainspring problem. You probably didn't get the "rod" into the "cup". If you look inside the gap where the mainspring latch goes, you will see a rod. You have to guide that rod into a cup on the mainspring latch for it to operate.

Insert an EMPTY magazine, ensure that the firearm is UNLOADED, and pull the trigger while gently tapping the barrel down on a piece of wood or carpet to get the hammer into the uncocked position. Then disassemble, and be sure to get that rod into the cup. To do this, tilt the gun up at a 45 or so degree angle (barrel to the sky) and then insert the mainspring latch. It is fixable and you don't need a gunsmith. The key is getting the hammer into the uncocked position first, then disassembling it, then reassembling it properly.

follow these instructions to re-assemble.

I have had the same problem before, try inserting an empty mag, and pull the trigger while wiggling the maingspring housing. That should get it free.

I am thinking about picking this up to simplify the whole process

Blank page

Also as a side note, dissassembly is much easier if you remove the mag safety, spring and hammer bushing, and replace it witha a hammer bushing from a mkII. That can probably be done for less than 5$ including shipping.

I just picked my 22/45 up the other day and I took it apart and fiddled with it, putting it back, had the same problem. I read, re-read and then once again, re-read again to full understand the instructions. Once I did, I had no problems in putting it back together. Just go read it over and over until you get the instruction before you put it together. It'll be easy once you read it throually.

First time I took apart my 22/45, I took me about an hour to put it back together!!! Read the instructions CAREFULLY and THOROUGHLY!!! After that it's pretty easy.

I'll try what you said to do first and see what happens... I'll let you guys know.

Yeah, I still haven't found the time to fiddle with mine and see if I can fix it yet. I just bought a XD-9 Tactical today so I've been a little preoccupied.
