Steyr M9A-1

Any other members have experience with this firearm. Always wondered about them in the back of my mind. Weren't they founded by ex Glock employees or is that a rumor.

Steyr has been around a lot longer than Glock has been in business. So to answer the qestion above...NO.

I've owned two Steyr pistols and feel that they shoot much better than all of the Glocks that I have owned. Size is on par with the G19/23, but I find the Steyr to field strip much faster. I just prefer the features of the Steyr pistol. I like their trap sights as well, even though I opted for PT nightsights on my M40.

Steyrs are true bargains in the pistol field, so if you want quality, but cannot afford a Glock or XD...take a look at the Steyr. You can buy them from CDNN for under $350.

The story you're thinking of is that the Steyr was designed by a member of the Glock design team. When he presented the design to Glock, they declined to build it, so he took it to Steyr.

Yup. But it also feels great in the hand, it has a great out of the box trigger, it's accurate, and it's reliable.

I own four of these pistols in differant sizes and calibers. The smaller framed guns are my carry guns. These are a very high quility gun they are worth every penny.

Depending on how "brand new" it was (ie, the CDNN ones have been sitting around for a while), it may have had the old style extractor. Not everyone has had issues with it, but enough people did that Steyr made a new extractor for more positive extraction. Over on the Steyr forum everyone who has had an issue has been able to either send in their pistol at no charge, or have the new parts sent to them.
