HD Shotgun Ammo

So I got a 12ga Remington 870 on the way and its my first shottie. Just curious what everybody uses/recommends for HD ammo for theirs. 2 3/4 vs. 3", brand, size, etc.

I went to Wally World and bought some Winchester 3" Magnum unplated 00 buck (15 pellets), how is this?

In my HD shotgun I use these.
They will bring anyone down within a home defense situations range. And with my 8 shots, keep them down if they try and leave before police arrive.

I figure it will help my situation not blasting away with lead/steel buckshot in the event of an investigation.
I have seen someone get nailed with 1 round of rubber buck and it looked very effective.
Of course in the event they exchange fire..I have hidden backups within reach in just about every room.

I don't use the beanbag rounds..something about a bag flying out doesn't seem accurate to me..they could be very accurate..I dunno, but I prefer the buckshot.

BB,T, #2, #4, #8.

I always figure it doesn't matter.

I've hit ducks with a #4 at 20 yards and done considerable damage.

People aren't going to be happy if they get hit with any of them.

+1. Whatever comes out of the business end of a shotty is going to make someone have a bad day.

Larger size = less things flying through the air.

You get X amount of force to move the shot.

All you change by going larger or smaller is how the force is distributed and your pattern.

I like 3".

I shoot 3" #2 and #4's hunting. That what I have for HD as well.

*stuff you bought will get the job done.

00 buck will do the deed but may be too much inside a house. Birdshot, no matter what size is designed for small game and will not penetrate effectively. You guys carry the best ammo in your XD for putting someone down, why skimp on your shotty? You shoot to stop the aggresor, not to wound them.

I don't know ichy, that's why I'm asking. #4 buckshot so any particular brand? 2 3/4 or 3"? I appreciate all the help!

What you have will work for home defense, but may be a little tough on your shoulder and hard to control. I suggest taking it out to the range and setting targets up at 7,15 and 25 yds. This will give you an idea of the spread you will get at various ranges and also give you a chance to decide if you should use 2 3/4" reduced recoil loads rather than 3" full loads.
