What Should I Get/Do ??????
i realize these threads come up all the time........
but, i have about $600+ i've been saving to spend on a new firearm. i am good with all my hunting equipment (shotguns, 30/06, 30/30, 22's, etc etc), i am also good with my HD weapons (mossberg500, xd, etc). so i am considering 4 options. 1.) another big caliber pistol to keep in my car 24/7.....possibly a 1911/kimber (realize i will probably spend more than $600 on this purchase). 2.) a smaller concealed carry than my 45, one i can also keep in my car 24/7 (possibly xd9, bersa/walther .380, one of the glock9s, etc. 3.) my first revolver also for concealed carry and car.....i know absolutely nothing about revolvers but like the airweight s&w.....maybe too small?? 4.) an AK......especially if this election goes left/bans keep getting passed/prices keep going up.....i also know almost nothing about ak's....have only shot maybe 3 of them, but like the yugos and the underfolder ak's. i appreciate any feedback/reviews to help sway me one way or another Last edited by bottomuvthamap : 03-01-2008 at 04:47 AM. |

Get a Sig P6 for your car. Won't hurt if it gets stolen.

Revolver, to round out the collection a bit...
We've got three semi-autos in the house (not counting the SA rifle)... I'm hunting for a nice, used revolver... specifically a S&W 686 or 620, preferably in the "plus" version (7 shot) with 4" barrel. Been watching my local gun shops for some time and will continue. If after a few more months no luck, then I'll consider my seconds option, a new Ruger GP-100. |

The Sig P225 is a sweet gun, and only about $300...so you don't have a huge investment sitting in the car unattended. It would also work for CCW.

Go with the AK. I have a feeling we're (you, I live in CA) aren't going to be able to get them much longer, and buy as many mags and as much ammo as you can afford.

I'd go with a CCW piece for sure. Sometimes I am forced to leave my gun in the car, but I don't feel comfy having one as a permanent resident in the car.
I carried a S&W J-Frame for years. it was a great little revolver, but it was difficult to shoot well past ~7 yards, and even at 7 yards it was almost impossible for me to get any real "groups." The heavy DAO trigger and even heavier recoil of .38+P gave me problems. Center of Mass was about the best I could do for at 7 yards. One night of working in a retail management job, I was carrying a j-frame and one of the regular customers threatened my life. If the SHTF that night, I probably would have taken care of business, but if I didn't, I would have been in a bad spot (reload time & capacity). I later compared my j-frame to a baby Glock, and one week later my j-frame was sold and the G26 became my new pocket rocket. A lot of people think it is too big and heavy for pocket carry, but with a good gun belt and the right pants (cargos and other pants with big pockets) it is very pocketable. For me, the tiny, lightweight j-frames are for up close and personal work ONLY. With some of the modern small 9mms, you'll find that you can shoot center of mass out to 25 yards. Nonetheless, you sound like you need something to carry. For me, the Service sized XD is too long in the grip area to conceal easily. |
