Taurus OSS - Most Over-hyped Gun Ever?
Since early 2007, Taurus has been hyping the OSS. It's in every gun magazine, its commercial is repeated over and over during the gun shows on tv. Its even on my Guns and Ammo calender this month. But it is still not available!? When will Taurus quit being all show / no go?
This reminds me of the Taurus Gaucho and the PT1911. The only non-Taurus gun to be introduced this poorly in the Bren Ten (guns shipped with no magazines available until 1 year later).

While I like the XDs much more than the Taurus PT 111 Millenium 9mm I havethis has been a solid gun for me and I have had no issues with it in 600+ rounds. Shoots straight, been reliable. I know others have had serious issues but mine has been just fine. A note from the other side.

I've heard nothing but positive comments on the PT1911. Their quality and service may be hit-or-miss, but their marketing stategy is horrible. They should do like Ruger did and have it on the dealer shelves at the same time they start their marketing campaign.
Its like Fred Thompson's Presidential campaign. The hype has peaked and faded before the product is actually introduced.

Ahhh, yes. "Turdus".
They really are hyping the Judge model. I see a lot of people calling into the gun shop for that one.

With an over-flooded market of quality, proven, workable polymer pistols of that flavor (Glocks, XDs, FNPs, M&Ps, PX4s...take your pick), why would anyone buy the OSS Taurus?
The other choices are proven and with Taurus' QC at a very hit and miss..why take the chance? the other chance is that in another year or so...they won't even make the thing. Couple this with their shaky customer service and warranty and theres no reason to buy Taurus' stuff anymore. (unless you find a nice early PT92 9mm...those were golden) - Brickboy240

I thought the OSS had a nice look to it when I first saw it. I probably would have bought one at the time. But now the interest has passed.
They need to send their marketing department to a Marketing 101 class. Right now Taurus has spent a lot of money on marketing this thing, and have yet to make a single sale. Idiotic.

Hard to market any product when your QC is hit and miss.
Taurus built a good reputation in the beginnig with their copy of the 92 Beretta. These and their S&W like revolvers were a good value for the money and solidly built. Today, they have good ideas, but their QC is spotty at best. They also spread themselves thin with introducing products then janking them off the line after a few years and offering zillions of vaiations on the ones they keep. I used ot have an old PT92 9mm and it was every bit as good as my current 96 Beretta, but the stuff I see from Taurus today and all the stories about QC problems and poor service will keep me fom buying their products. And like I said earlier...this is a market over-saturated with VERY good products that are proven. Why buy Taurus? - brickboy240

A friend of mine bought The Judge after I recommended it to him, he mentioned to me he was looking for a trail gun for a rattlesnake infested area.
It does what it's supposed to do I guess. I've never personally owned a Taurus so I dunno much about their customer service. I do know I would buy a original Taurus PT92 over a any year Beretta 92 if I were in need of one. The OSS looks neat. Not sure if it is $623 neat though.
