Good deal. You can't get em that cheap anymore. I remmber in the 90's my uncle was trying to convice my dad to buy up some SKS's they were going for $80. My dad was never really into guns, he's always used a revolver for home protection but any auto loader minus a shotgun scares him but he won't admit it... Too bad he didn't know anybetter, I could be rolling around in a pile of SKS's and life would be better than it allready is.

Last year that would have been an okay deal. This year that is one heck of a deal buy it up and dont think twice. You use to be able to get a yugo unissued from aim for $150 shipped. They are now over $200 plus shipping.

jeez, I remember late 80s early 90s, hand selecting straight from the case, full accessory kit and 500 rounds for 60 bucks if you bought 3 or more
I even remember trading a fifth of Jim Beam for one in college lol my how times have changed of course they were so heavily cosmolined that it took the rest of the day to clean 3 lol Last edited by Tattooed Bard; 02-24-2008 at 06:58 PM. |

Yes...believe it or not...back in the early 90s there were table and tables of unissued Russian SKSs in boxes. They came with a new sling, clenaing kit, a leather ammo pouch and a coupe of stripper clips. Brand spanking new, slathered in cosmoline and not even any drag marks on the receiver grooves from having the bolts opened many times. Dates ranged from 1952 to about 1958 on most of these rifles. They sold for 75-85 bucks apiece.
Ammo for these rifles? Well a 100rd case of VERY GOOD shooting Chinese Norinco or East German steel cased ammo went for 65-75 dollars. It was a big, wooden crate with tons of little paper 20rd boxes all neatly packaged. Havey and hard to carry. There were pallets and pallets of the stuff. More than you could carry. Yes, back then, you cold shoot your SKS with 7.62x39 cheaper than a 22 magnum! Fortunately, I bought one of those 1952 Russkie SKSs and several cases of ammo. Still have one of the unopened 1993 made cases of that yellow-boxed Chinese Norinco ammo left. Oh...had we only knew then what we know now! I would have bought MANY more of those rifles and cases of ammo. Back then...it seemed like they'd be around forever and so would the cheap ammo. Who knew?

Love my SKS. You're getting a good deal on that one, let me tell you (but you knew that already).
I think the SKS is one of the up-and-coming project rifles out there these days. It's definately the cheapest base model. More and more products are out there for customizing your SKS. Leapers, Tapco, Ramline, ATI are but a few companies making stuff to turn an already good gun into a personalized shooter. Ammo is still one of the cheaper calibers around, especially if you shop around a bit and buy in bulk. Check out http://www.sksboards.com for a LOT more information. joe
