thinking about a BUG
I recently picked up an xd40sc as my first gun. I plan on taking the CCW as soon as I sell some of my stuff to make the $$$ (my wife won't let me spend the mortgage $$$, go figure
I know the xd is a pretty small gun, but I have been reading alot of posts on various sites, and I think a BUG is probably a good idea. If I can carry one gun, why not 2? I'm a pretty big guy, and wear pants with pockets that could probably fit a full size gun. But for the purpose of a pocket gun I'm torn between the Bersa's and Kel-Tecs. I don't even know if I want a .380 or a 9mm. I do know it needs to be under $300 though. Please help me, I've read so many different reviews and comparisons I think I'm going a little crazy. I know the Bersa is bigger, but the reviews are usually very good. If I go with the .380, the 9 is only a little bigger. same problem with the KT. But the KT seems to have a bunch of reliability issues. This gun will also be my primary carry when i can carry the xd. I know this subject has been beaten to death, but I can use all the help you can give me. |

Lcp
Check out the new Ruger LCP .380 at the Ruger Website. Hopefully it's everything a Kel-Tec was meant to be.

regarding the revolver, I already have an original S&W model 60 .38. But it's my wife's home gun. So if I carry it, it leaves her without a gun at home. I would like a nice .357/.38 for carry as a BUG, but i can't find anything under $300 I like. I can't even find anything used really. They all seem to be in the $350+ range
As far as the Ruger goes, if I do decide to go with the .380 that is definitely the way I'm going depending on the reviews next month. I need to see how they turn out before I make the decision. But yeah, the Ruger made the decision even more difficult |

May I suggest a Kahr in the CW series. They are around $400 and you can get them in 9mm, .40 and .45 acp. I have a CW9 and even with tighter jeans on it fits in my front pocket but prints without a holster.
Just thought I would throw that out there as something else for you to consider. They even get smaller if you go for the PM series but they are a little pricier. |

You should just wait a little longer to save a little more money for your OWN revolver in like .38. Go put money down on a S&W 642 or something and just pay it off little by little. I wouldnt get either one of those guns if your only getting it for the price. I put a 642 on hold at the local gun shop and paid it off within a few mo.

all right, after thinkign for a few hours and researching the guns I like I made a decision. I'm going to get the Ruger when I find one for a decent price and start saving for a S&W 340PD with Crmson Trace(?) laser sight. I know I should just go right for the S&W but I really like the concealabilty of the Ruger for the summer. By the time I start wearing jeans again in the fall I should have the 340. Very excited about having finally figured out what to get. But I do like the other S&W revolvers too. maybe I'll have to get a few......

As always, when and if possible shoot the gun that you're thinking of getting before you get it.
Many guns look good and look good on paper, but some only expose their flaws after being shot. I love my Keltec, but for someone with big hands it's less than ideal. I have fairly small hands, and I think at times the gun is too small for me.

I picked up a KT PF-9 as my BUG. I'm 100% happy with it. Very accurate for it's size. It's the thinnest 9mm made, about 1lb fully loaded and every time I've pulled the trigger it has worked perfectly. It fits in most pockets and is so light you'll hardly notice it. Very comfortable with a Don Hume ITW holster. The only bad thing I have to say about the PF-9 is that It has the recoil similar to a .44 Mag. due to it's light weight. After about 50 rounds you'll know what I'm talking about. A Hogue Hand-all Jr. is helpful and tames it fairly well.

45XDC beat me to it, i was going to recommend either the PF-9 or P11 for compact 9mm's. the P3AT is a really popular choice, but if you're like me with huge hands, i can only get 2 fingers on the grip of those really small autos. i may try out one of the new compact rugers when they come out. if you're willing to lower your caliber standards a little more, my g/f's dad loves his Beretta Tomcat in .32acp. he put a set of crimson trace grips on it & it's minute of pop-can accurate out to 15 yards. Currently my own BUG is a Beretta Bobcat in .22lr, a last chance gun to stick up the bad guys nose before firing, haha |
