I wanna stainless Taurus 24/7, your comments???
I know some of you own these and I wanted some feedback, even down to the caliber. I was thinking 9mm but maybe the 40 outperforms it? Either way the reviews are great on them and being a Nevada resident I may eventually get one of these for myself.

I don't mean to disappoint you, but please do your homework very carefully before buying this gun. I bought one in 9mm, and while I liked several aspects of it--the look, the features, the feel of the "ribber" grips, the lifetime warranty--I quickly found out that Taurus has substandard quality control in their manufacturing. And their service on the "lifetime warranty" is often terrible, dragging an easy issue out for months, while treating customers rudely all along the way. My 24/7 had major problems holding reasonable groups, even for a self-defense pistol. It also suffered frequent problems with light primer strikes. I tried different types of ammo, and other obvious fixes, but nothing worked. When I called Taurus, they were so rude and unhelpful, I went out on the web and researched around, and found that many others shared the experiences I was having. Finally, in disgust I traded in the pistol and got a used XD, and I've never looked back.
Now all this doesn't mean you shouldn't get one. Some people get Tauruses and have a great experience, and are very happy. Just be aware though, that my experience was very common. Initially everyone loved the 24/7 when it came out; it even won the NRA "Handgun of the year" for 2004 or 2005. But then the problems started cropping up, and the reputation of the 24/7 has never recovered. I think you'll increase your odds or probability of getting something you'll be happy with by sticking with a brand that is known for quality, and also one that is know for standing behind its products with outstanding service. Springfield comes to mind (their 1911's or XD's), as does Smith & Wesson, as does Sig, Glock, CZ, and Ruger. My personal favorite gun companies, whose products I buy more than any other, are Springfield (XD and 1911), and CZ (rimfire and centerfire rifles, a 75 SP01, an 85 Combat, and a 75 Kadet). |

I have heard from many, many gunowners about Taurus' substandard customer service. Because this might be a possible issue, I have decided that if I do in fact decide to purchase this pistol I'm going to purchase it off of galleryofguns.com as I have done with S&W 442 and get the Davidson's Lifetime Warranty on it. If ANYTHING goes wrong with whatever firearm you purchase through the site, they'll just replace it.........free, and send you a brand new gun the very next day. So because I'm really not too happy about having any possible future issues with Taurus regarding mags FTF etc. I'll just use my warranty through Davidson which is located in Arizona one state down from me. But yeah, I was waiting to hear a possible negative comment(s) on this weapon. Gun Tests magazine gave it a "Buy IT" rating which for them is pretty good. They gave the same rating to our beloved XD's, Glocks, and S&W M&P semi-autos. So we'll see what happens, but again thanks for the comments, I'm curious if others have had the same problems with the same gun. -40 Last edited by 40packin : 02-22-2008 at 04:12 AM. |
