Question Question for the Desert Eagle owners

I have a Desert Eagle .357, been in the family for at least 20 years. The serial number is only 4 digits (not sure if that is significant)

My question is - Is this a MK VII or MK XIX? How the heck do you tell? There are no markings that give it away.

The reason I ask is because I am ordering a new spring kit from Magnum Research, and I dont know what I need.

Any help?

edit: I've consulted the manual with little success. It gives measurements for each model, but they are so close that it is still too hard to tell.

And a pic for the hell of it:

Is that an XDSC? How's this gun in .357 mag? I would like to get one of these just to say I got one but not sure which chamber I should get.

HA! Looks like an SC.

I have the 357 and I have to tell you, the first time I shot it, I was a little kid and couldn't touch my thumb to the tip of my middle finger around the grip. It scared the crap out of me. So I took it to the range a few days ago, with those memories in mind, expecting a cannon.

It really wasn't that bad at all. Its got recoil, but only because of the weight of the slide rather than because its a 357. Thats my opinion anyway. I love this gun dearly.

Did you call Mag Research to see if they could look under the serial number and tell you what model it is? SA will do this as well as other manufacturers. I heard that the weight of the gun kind of keeps recoil manageable.

Those guns in .44 mag are a hoot the .357 feels like powder puff load in them.

I guess I'll call the manufacturer. That is probably the best solution. Why didnt I think of that?!

It's a MK I according to Magnum Research in case anyone was hanging on the edge of their seats.

I have no idea what mine is either, probably the same as yours because they sound about the same age. I'm getting rid of mine because it's just too bulky and not too practical. You get a good idea of the size of it compared to your xdSC. Here is a pic of my .44mag compared to my xdTac.

Hmm, I figured it would go without saying - That's not a sub-compact. Its the Service model.

I cant believe you are getting rid of it. Consider me first in line. Seriously. your pics didnt show for me. edit: nm, its there now.

Service? It was hard for me to tell when put next to a 32 pound desert eagle, same with my XD. It's even worse when you lock the slide back. (measures at nearly 12 1/2 inches)

Yea, getting rid of it. Next Gunshow i'm going to see what I can get in trade. I'm glad they keep their resell and trade in value. They devalue very little even when used. The .44 really doesn't recoil all that bad, I think its because it's so heavy and solid. I do like the 3 foot fireball when shot though..makes me giggle.
