ideas for a stay at home gun
Ok so I made it a point to the wife tonight that Im gonna start carrying in a few weeks. I said that if im not at the house with you and you get broken in, the only gun you will have is the 12 gauge. By the way she has shot it but she says its too heavy and it kinda scares her. She actually said that we should get another handgun. This of course makes me happy. So this next gun will be sorta for both of us, but mainly for her self defense use while home alone. She shoots my xd45 but i think she wants a smaller caliber to use. I could use some suggestions as to what to get. I just havent found much i like in the price range given. Im wanting to get a little more variety so ill probably get something different from another XD. I think she only wants me to spend around 300 bucks which really limits things i know. Quality is so important when choosing a firearm. Im open to all ideas. Thanks guys.

Consider a revolver. A used S&W model 10 or 64 in 4". would be a good choice and within your budget.

i suggest a revolver also, a hammer-less one more specifically. I think the ease of use is a huge selling point for them.

I don't know what she might like but I just got a Bersa Thunder .380 CC that sounds like it fits in price and capability. $279 new before the ++. Good for pocket or HD. Failing that I would agree with an SW J frame, 442 or 642 (hammerless) models come to mind. I haven't priced them new or used lately though.

Revolver! Especially if she has a problem racking the slide on a semi-auto. Like Frenchy said, used S&W but I wouldn't count out a new Taurus for that price range. Check to see if she can handle .38+P.
Here's one you might consider. Fairly light weight, full sized grip, 7 shots, and handles +P. Love mine! Blued model is a little cheaper. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/31386

If she shoots your XD45, and is used to the way it functions, how about a Service model XD9? She would not have to learn anything new, recoil is very managable, and she would be familiar with it.
Or, if she is the primary user, maybe she should have some say in the selection.
