My hope is since houge made the rubber molds for the p6/p225, that someone will buy the mold they have moth balled and make some half decent quality rubber grips for under $40. I just cant stomach paying $70 plus tax, plu shipping for a $259 gun. Its like putting $8,000 rims on my car.

I have convinced myself the grips are ok, my hand fits snuggly and its no show piece.
I got my grip from e-bay. Sellers name is anydlof.
I paid about $80 for it.

I thought about samething as you. Do I really want to spend $80 for $259 gun?
While value of that is up to each individual, my take is this.

Its a SIG.

It may not be most desireble Sig, but still very dependable, well made firearm. To me, gun is a keeper. that was good enough to spend $80 for the grip(and $100 or so for the night sight, and $200+ for electrless chrome in near future) for this gun...

Really, though...most nice exotic wood pistol grips (for any pistol) run around 70-85 bucks. Well...the ones you'd be proud to own anyways. Their pricing is not totally out of line.

I agree about the P6. If you can hit well with it and trust the thing - spending money on good grips is worth it. I put a set of 90 dollar grips on my old Hi-Power that I paid only 275 bucks for back in 1993. Why? Because I can hit anything with the thing and it is utterly reliable....any pistol that meets those criteria deserves a good set of grips.

I thought about refinishing my Swiss police P225, but since its a heel release pistol, grips are not easy to fin, plus, you don't see Swiss made P225s very often so I am leery to refinish a fairly rare police pistol because it might go up in value someday. I paid 400 bucks even for the thing three years ago. I ahve only seen one other Swiss P225 since then. Only the Swiss P225s had heel releases and Swiss P225s were never made for commercial sale.

And yes...it IS a SIG..not a Bersa or Taurus so like my FN Hi-Power..there IS some quality in its pedigree. Its worth working on, if you ask me.

Believe me, someday, those P6s WILL be worth more than 275 bucks. Remember when all those nice E. German Makarovs came into the USA for 129 bucks apiece. They sell for over 300 now and good luck finding one. My Hi-Power is another example: bought as military surplus in 1993 for 275 bucks...have you seen an FN Belgian Hi-Power for under 300 bucks lately? Me neither. The P6 will go up in value...hang onto it...you'll see.

Sad thing is that I am considering picking up a P6 to go with my Swiss P225...since they're so inexpensive and you know they'll go up in value someday.

SIGs are alot like Mausers and 1911s...hard to only have one.

(I now have two and the P6 would make three..oh...this is an addiction)

While true, I've been managed to not get more then one

Mainly because one I want to get is so hard to find(older P-220 chambered in 9mm with heel mag release).

And most SIG are just so darn expensive to start with...

Mity2,

The Gander Mtn. on Hwy 290 in Houston has two Swiss made, SIG P220 9mms that were Swiss Army issued guns for sale. I think they want around 450 for them. They have holster wear but are tight guns and the internals are good. I played around with both of them about a week ago and I'll bet they're still there.

I don't know if thats a good price, but I have never seen these offered for sale anywhere...they're probably fairly rare. Like the Swiss P225s...I bet they're great shooters.

i told myself i didnt need a mauser with a pending ban, and that i needed a FN FAL and an ar15, well i saw a fn herstal .308 mauser, i couldnt pass it up. Now i am dieing to buy a 8mm persian mauser ... which i think i can resist untill, i get the FAL.

Dont get me wrong guys i dig my P6 the ugly grips kinda grew on me since they do fit allright, they are pure utilitarian ugly, which is fine. I think i will just wait it out and see if i can save $50 by waiting and some lesser known vendor will buy the old houge molds and fire up the rubber vat to make some new grips to satisfy all the new guns, ya know everyone is gonna want new grips as the first mod.

I am mostly upset i posted a link to $25 short trigger at midway, didnt order it right away, then they sold out before i bought one.

it crossed my mind to trick it out a bit. if i do get it chromed out i would HAVE to put new grips on it at that point. At the minimum i am likely gonna put some trijicon night sights on it, after a certain level, the grips drag the gun down and it deserves some pretty grips. But at the same time i would be very happy to have a nice patina on it, slight blue wear, and pop some $22 rubber grips on it. I would be please and proud of the p6 like that.

If your gonna get one of the fancy coatings then sure you need new grips, no shame in paying $80 for grips at that point.
