I may be picking one up as well as I just sent my P3AT back to Keltec today to be repaired. You can't trust your life to a gun that jams 2-3 out of every 6 rounds. If they don't fix it to 100% then someone else can deal with it and I'll take the money and buy the LCP.

I spoke with my local shop (versus Adventure Outdoors) and they have heard from their distributors that Ruger will begin shipping on 3/14. The shop charges 10% over wholesale (or what they claim is their wholesale price). He said wholesale is $250, so he's selling them for $275.

Quick question regarding this gun:

Since it's brand new, how do we know this will be better than the Keltec's?

The reason I ask is because I will looking for a pocket gun soon and I see people are quick to get this instead of the Keltec. Were there already reviews on this and if so can someone point me to them? Thanks.

Ruger pistols have a pretty good reputation of reliability. Of the Center fire pistols I have own from Ruger would eat anything anytime, though they were not the engineering marvels that get all the oohs and aahs. But I would bet my life on the pistol going boom when I pull the trigger.

I am however going to wait a little while until the first production run makes it debut.

For some strange reason that LCP has got my attention.

+1
Keltec's are backed by a good company with great service but the guns can be finicky. Maybe Ruger can pull a rabbit out of a hat.

The most direct answer is that no one on this forum really knows whether one is better than the other since the gun is not available yet. The assumption is that since the Kel Tec was first and has been out there for some time, Ruger has the advantage of learning lessons from the kel tec...i.e., what did they do well? what could be improved (e.g., locking slide)? With that in mind, I would assume the Ruger will be better than the kel tec. HOWEVER, kel tecs have an advantage too. Since they've been in production, they have developed a second generation.

You can spend a lifetime working to create the "perfect design." But at some point your employer or economics will demand that you stop designing and go with what you have. It's likely that Ruger will incur some mistakes like Kel Tec. But I'm betting that Ruger's gun will be better. Only time will tell though.

I pretty much see this happening as well. I am pulling for the little guy here, but I don't see this helping them any, that's for sure. I am not an expert on guns by any means, but I don't think I have ever heard about as many guns that have to be returned to the factory or sent new parts than the keltecs. I love the one I have in that it disappears in my pocket. But it has to be reliable and of the 5 people I know that have them, not including myself, 3 have gone back to the factory for some sort of repair.

I tend to agree with you. Probably the biggest improvement would be polishing the feedramp really good before they ship it out. That seems to be the biggest issue with the Kel-Tec. Mass production roughness. Then again, Ruger is not known for a mirror finish on internals.

I'm intrigued, but if I jump, I'll wait 3-6 months and see what the rugerforums have to say.
