tell me about a 1975 Winchester 94.

I've always known my dad had a "levergun" that he got off someone that owed him some money. He's never shot it. So today he was talking about it and I say "You know winchester shut down a year or so ago? it could be worth some money!" "No I think its a marlin". So naturally he fishes it out and its 1894. Serial # dates it as a '75. Can anyone tell me anything special about it? does it have a cross bolt safety? what the heck is a crossbolt safety? oh yeah, whats it worth? Couldn't find anything close on gunbroker. Everything seems to be pre-64 stuff.

its a 30-30.

Now if I could only convince him to give it to me!

I told him it would be worth about $150. He balked and said it wasn't worth selling. "To bad, I have $150 in silver I'd trade ya for it!". He didn't bite...

A 1975 94 will not have the cross bolt safety. A bonus to any true 94 fan however thats where the special ends. The true 94's ended production with the rest of the Win greats in 1964. It will be worth a little more than the cross bolt safety models but not much. Remember there are millions of 94's floating around. They are a great brush rifle however and no collection is complete without at least one. If it is a XTR model -checkered with gloss bluing it will be worth a little more if not it will still put alot of venison on the table.

My model 1894 sitting in my lap right now was made in 1902. My grandpa once remarked that he poached and ate so many deer and antelope with it that when he came to a fence he didn't know wether he should try and crawl under it or jump over the fence.

1964 is the magic date for all Winchesters.

I've been trying to figure the value on my Winchester. It has the 20 inch round barrel, saddle ring, and I would guesstimate it at being in the 70% condition. Barrel looks fine as best as I can tell, it functions quite well (helluva boom and kick!). Re-blueing would make this thing look nearly new. Any thoughts?

Depending on the age, a re-blue could impact the value (negatively)!

I have a 94 made in 1896. My granfather's. It comes to the shoulder so nice and the sights feel like they were made for me. He was cowboy, too. My Dad left it and several other guns sitting on the tile floor in a room with no heat form a year. Took a while to clean up.

Along with that I'm thinking it might be a little better quality than the later ones.

Dont you dare. Collector value would drop by at least 1/3. That rifle needs to be retired to a place of honor and passed on to your grand kids. Those old 94's are a piece of history and deserve every bit of respect you can give them. There are enough of more recent manufacture if you want one as a hunting rifle. Have it appraised by a reputable collector and insure it.
