Its tradition..
The fact of having to sit down in public on your first carry makes you realize that no one cares you are carrying and helps you get over it.. |

I think it relates to one making their first trip into public once they are legal to carry a concealed weapon.
Walmart is a good place to be among a gagillion people, they sell ammo, and nachos are good...so why not get something to eat while you are on your carrying maiden voyage. Though I am just surmising here...someone in the know can clear this up if I have missed something!

the first time you carry, you go to walmart, buy some range ammo, then buy some nacho's and eat them there.
its a routine that gets you used to the feeling of doing day to day things while having a gun on you. i dont know how range ammo and nacho's came into the situation as the thing to do, but it just stuck.

Wal mart and Nachos is an unwritten tradition that when a person recieves their CCW permit, the first place they should concealed carry to is Wal mart, and they should purchase nachos from the snack bar. It was explained to me when i got my CCW permit as "Wal mart is big, its full of people who don't pay any attention, and it gets you used to doing normal things in familiar places while carrying with little risk of people noticing anything, most likely the 'print' of your gun."

here's the deal
When you first get your LTC (license to carry), it is traditional to visit Wally Mart while carrying your firearm concealed. Most people will visit the snack bar and buy nachos and sit on a bench near the main customer flow of the store and eat their tasty snacks just to see if anyone notices that they are carrying. In the past few years, most Super Walmarts have replaced their snack bars with a McDonalds or a Subway so you can do the same thing there. It is also now a right of passage when you get your permit to go to the sporting goods dept. and purchase ammo to see if the clerk there knows that you are packing. When I got my first LTC, I went shopping with my wife and bought ammo and a cart full of groceries. I was in the store for an hour and a half and no one even noticed my gun. It helps to relax you and give you awareness that most people will not even realize that you are carrying your firearm.
I now have 3 different LTC so every time I get one, I go to Walmart and purchase a bag of Tostitos and a jar and some salsa just because... ...IT IS TRADITIONAL to do that!
