Fn Fnp-45...

Any of yous guys know about this thing? I know it's been "out" now for a while, but I can't seem to find the information that I'm looking for.

I know it's double action, however all the stuff on the web says it has ambi decocker levers. However, they sure as heck look like safety/decockers ala HK.....which is what I'm hoping for.

Here's my take, a poly high cap 45 that you have a double strike option with kinda gets me excited. Having EVERYTHING ambi is pretty cool as well, safety/mag release/slide release and a full 1913 rail. Very nice aggressive looking grip out of the box, means no stipple time for me. I have been thinking about this for a while now and even though I have a ton of faith in the XD, I think the double strike option and ability to swap the back straps are a bit more attractive.

I know the 9 and 40 FNPs come in both DA, DAO and SAO and have read rumors that the 45 will follow suit sometime down the road. Even though I hate and I mean HATE traditional double action, I don't want to wait for the DAO gun. Well, and I kinda like being able to carry it cocked and locked. With the safety being in the correct location, it's not going to be a hard transition from the 1911s over to the FNP.

So, what's the word?

I THINK this is a similar if not the same gun I was fondling at the gun shop last week:

Quote:
FN ( I think it was the H version ) bi-tone. Mixxed impressions here, it looked nice, felt nice but gave off an overall "cheap" impression, the guide rod was stainless and solid but quite small. The control levers looked thin and cheap and some of the black matte finish on them was already wearing off. No ambi mag release. I layed one right on top of an XD-9 Service and they match up pretty well but the XD just has an overall beefier look and impression. DA/SA, the trigger seemd nice but I was only dropping it on my thumb as the gun aint mine. Most worriesome was that the cocking serations on what was supposed to be a stainless slide appeared to have some flaking down in the crevices. Thinking it was just crud I attempted to scrape it loose with a fingernail but the flaw just got bigger !! I would have to inspect this one a lot more before buying it.
Have you handled one yourself yet?

I've only handled the FNP-9 and the only reason I really don't care for it is the manual safety that they have on that gun. The metal safety just seems flimsy to me. Looks like it's just a piece of stamped steel and when you mess with it, you can feel the flex.

This safety looks more like a "normal" thumb safety. It's big and in the right place, ala 1911, which is the most attractive part to me.

If it can't be carried cocked and locked, I really have no use for it and I'll just either wait for the SA or DAO version to come out. I lose the second strike option with the SA version, but retain it with the true DAO version.

I'm drawn to the DA gun though, because it wouldn't be much of a muscle memory difference between it, and the 1911s, with having to work the safeties.

Brickboy should be chiming in, I think he's been salivating over one of these for a while. I think he spoke to a FN rep so he should have more info.

According to folks on the FN Forum, the FNP45 may hit the stores in January 08. I sure hope so, as I want one!!

Yes, not out yet - It was supposed to be Nov, then Dec. It should be very soon.

We have an FN rep at www.fnforum.net who does Q&A's - he stated that the extractors were holding up production... But, supposedly, that was solved...

Come check out the FN Forum if ya wanna know more about the FNPs...

I dont know anything about it but its a nice looking gun. I was fondling the 5.6 they make today at a Bass Pro Shop. That and a S&W model 29.

The green one looks really cool. I think I prefer the XD45 though.
