AK
Go with the AK, Had an SKS and it just didnt have the same feel that the AK will give. Gave me problems finding mags that worked well. Also the AK is the #1 assault rifle in the world. you cant beat its relibility.

Meh. It is hard to say what I would do. I started building ak kits a year or two ago and recently purchased a Russian SKS. If I had to chose between the two I dont know what I would do. The ak gets the wow factor from my friends and the sks just has a certain feel to it that is hard to describe. I would get an ak first, just because of the upcoming election and how the antis view the ak, whereas the sks may slip under the rug since it does not have a factory detachable mag.

for a rifle/carbine..SKS. A little better accuracy, great weapon to own and pretty versatile.
For fun or to play 'dress up'...get the AK. You can do all kinds of neat things with it as far as tacticool. personally, for a 1st combloc-I'd get the SKS-AKs aren't going anywhere, and even if they do, there is still private sale/parts kit builds.

if i didn't live in commie-fornia, and i had to choose, i'd go with the AK. Reliability, cool-factor, reputation, availability of parts....
