Romanian PSL?

Given how expensive a real Dragunov/SVD is these days, what do you think about the Romanian PSL's? My home-state guys at J&G in Prescott are advertising them with scopes for $749--any words of wisdom, positive or negative?

Here's the link....

Do not use heavy grain ammo, check the rear trunnion rivets periodically, no SVD/TiGR parts will fit except for some furniture....other than that, I like them.....

154 grain only, heavy bullets will rattle them apart. Some have said that they are quite accurate, I dont know I guess they are good for what they were designed for. get the best glass you can for it and it should be good to go.

Is that with the Romanian optics? I was lead to believe that the Romanians come with a 4X scope and the Russians use a 6 or 8X. Either way I'd like to see one shoot that well. The only SVD based rifle I ever fired was a Tiger and I dont remember being too impressed but then I dont know what ammo we were firing through it either.

I want one bad. I know they aren't the most accurate guns. But they really aren't sniper weapons per say. More a SDM gun. If you look around, I know there is an optics company that specializes in Comm-block optics for guns like the PSL. You can pick up scopes with different mounts on their website.

You are correct. the 'PSL, FPK, SSG' Romanian rifle is the least accurate of the three becuase its more of a big AK than it is a TiGR or SVD/SVU. There are no 'standard' optics to the guns other than a PSOP scope with what ever magnification you want, although for 'front line battlefield marksman', the 4x and 6x were pretty much it. The rifle was to be used at a max range of 600m, but is more than capable of reaching out a lot farther. You must also find which ammo it likes the best.

For optics...
