Hell froze over - I bought a Glock 22!
After shooting a friend's Glock 17 with a grip reduction, I decided to seek out another Glock. The grip reduction takes the "hump" out of the back of the gripframe and makes the Glock point...well...like an XD or 1911. Really nice!
Well, Summit Gun Broker has Factory Re-built Glock 22s with Glock factory warranties and 3 new 15rd magazines, selling for the VERY attractive price of $349.95. Did I mention that they come with Meprolight night sites and a new factory case with cleaning rod and loading tool? These are second generation Glocks...yeay...no annoying finger grooves and I don't care about having a rail either. Upon field stripping this pistol, I noticed that all springs had been replaced and everything was cleaned up very well. The bore was perfect and other than a few holster marks on the frame and rear corners of the slide, it seemed almost new. I ran two boxes of Blazer Brass fmjs through it and it ate everything fine in typical Glock style. The grip reduction I am having done is going to run me 100 dollars - I cannot wait to have this done and will do it soon enough. I forgot how annoying the Glock's grip angle really is - the grip reduction changes that entirely. The Glock 22 is a pretty accurate shooter - it groups about like my XD-40 Service and seems as reliable. Zillions of cops would not carry the Glock 22 if it was crap. I was not really in the market for a Glock, but a factory reconditioned pistol with 3 new hi-cap mags and night sights for 349 bucks was just too good to pass up. The 15 rounds of 40SW is plenty of firepower for a truck carry gun (which is where this G22 is going). God knows the Glock 22 has proven itself and is utterly reliable and durable, to boot. I got it cheap enough, so having another 100 bucks in the grip reduction is not a real killer, either. So if anybody is looking for a serious service style pistol for a very good price (one htat comes with extras like 3 mags and night sights) check out Summit Gun Broker....he has some amazing deals. Have I gone to the "dark side?" Nah...I have no plans to swap everything out for Glocks...just change this one's grip and keep it as a truck carry gun. For the price...there was nothing else this attractive and this high quality. - Brickboy240 PS: K-booms? Well, I am not going to shoot lead out of this G22 and besides, I was warned about slide separations before I got my Beretta and about rust and jamming on the XD-40 and have never seen either in many years and thousands of rounds...the G-22 K-booms are probably not a huge worry for me, either.

Nice price. Nice gun. Not surprising a Volvo guy would love a Glock. I draw very close comparisons between the two.
I love my Block.

Yep...boxy looking, simple, European and pretty much trouble free...like my Volvo. I love basic utilitarian things like this Glock 22. I can load it and all the mags and leave it in the truck forever and the thing will always work....gotta love that.
Where else could I have gotten a factory guaranteed European autoloader from a major maker with 3 new magazines and night sights? With the grip re-shaping...it will be really nice. - Brickboy240

Grip reshape? Can you show any pics? I am curious as to exactly what they reshaped it to look like.

Not to hijack, but I was thinking of you the other day. I have a friend that has owned for 20 years, one of those 240DL wagons. Bought it new in I think 1985. That guy JUST got rid of it. It was his daily driver, family wagon for all of that time. He got rid of it, because it was rusted beyond repair. Rocker panels were gone from the Ohio road salt. Anyhow, he tells me he finally got rid of it. I was in shock. I see him three weeks later, and he has found and bought a 1990 DL Wagon, with like 30,000 miles and cherry body. He is ready for another 20 years. He acts like he bought a brand new car. Cracks me up. That guy and his Volvos cannot be seperated. So funny. Literally thinks he made a major upgrade going to a 1990. LOL. You guys are a cult!! LOL

There are many companies that can do a Glock grip re-coutour and many different shapes. The most popular is to re-shape it to have a more flat backstrap. Other mods include getting rid of finger grooves, adding a beavertail or getting rid of the curve in the triggerguard.
A shop in Austin, TX does this for about 100 dollars and a friend of mine had his old Gen 2. Glock 17 done not too long ago. I was shocked at how well it felt...totally different from my old Gen 2 G-17. It points like a 1911...cool. Think the XD with a lower bore axis. I love the texture...even if your hands get wet or sweaty, it grips well and does not slip in the hand. Very reassuring for a go anywhee, do anything pistol. Some shops like Robar charge almost 200 bucks to do this, but several other outfits range anywhere from 100-150 dollars. Well worth it if you can get a used Glock cheap. I love the idea of a 15 shot 40 with a 1911 feel and Glock's reliability. With the cost of this G22, I'll have 450 dollars total in this thing. When I get it done (and it might be months from now) I'll post photos. Here is a good idea of what the Glock grip re-shaping looks like: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/Gun...?p=0&t=1&i=381 - -brickboy240

Its really hard to beat that deal on the Glock 22 - 349 bucks for a factory warrantied pistol with 3 new hi-cap mags and night sights. The new springs and carrying case was a plus as well.
With the grip mod...its going to be hard ot beat the Glock 22. Its a very reliable piece in a formidable caliber with a 15rd capacity and night sights. Works for me! - Brickboy240

Wow, that is a great deal on the Glock 22. Sort of interesting, a second generation Glock 22 was my first pistol and it served me well. Never jammed once or had any other problems after pumping thousands of rounds through it. I actually JUST (as in within a week) traded it in for a new XD-service .40. The main reason is that I've got my concealed carry now and I like that the grip safety on the XD and I also wanted to have a rail to mount a tactical light. After shooting the XD, I do prefer it to the Glock, but that's not to say that the glock is a bad gun to shoot. Honestly they are both very good, trustworthy guns. That said, I'm still happy I made the move, the extra safety features of the XD really impress me (grip safety, firing pin indicator, chambered round indicator). I also like that the XD is a little heavier in the components below the slide - seems to help keep the recoil down a bit.
What blows me away on is the price you got on your factory reconditioned pistol. The shop where I traded my Glock gave me $410 towards my XD. My Glock was in about as good as shape as it could be given it's years of use, but it certainly isn't factory reconditioned. (It did have 3 15 round mags and 2 10 round mags as well as tritium night sites and had been cared for and cleaned/oiled after each use). $350.00 is such a good price for that gun that I'm gonna have to let a few friends who are in the market know. Especially being factory reconditioned, with a warrenty, case, and 3 clips. Is the 22 the only model they have available? S |

I like to give the brick and mortar stores around me the business, but lately, they all have jacked their used gun prices up so high, I was forced to order from afar.
I saw several used Glock 22s with one magazine, no night sights or warranty or anything selling in the 425-475 range. One had a 10rd Clinton mag and Gander Mtn still would not back off their 465 dollar price tag...sorry...no sale! Yes, Summit Gun Broker is a GREAT place to buy. I have bought magazines from him in the past and was always happy with what I got. this Glock 22 was better than I thought it would be and he has many left to sell. Its the best deal on a major brand service style pistol that I could find. - brickboy240
