Russian AK
Aguy I know has a Russian AK, 7.62, for sale at $850. He claims it is in pristine condition, only been fired a few times. It comes with one "8 round" mag, and a case.
I'm thinking he wants to much. What do you AK guys think? |

First of all, all Russian AK-47s were select fire rifles. This means they're considered Class 3 by the ATF and one has to go through background checks, pay a tax and jump through hoops before you can actually own a Russian AK-47. A true Russian AK-47 would probably be a several thousand dollar item.
Now, even if you did all the ATF legwork, at 850 bucks, a Russkie select fire AK would be an absolute steal...but I doubt seriously this is what he has. If he owns a real Russian AK-47 and does not have the permit and paid the tax or registered with the ATF...run...thats completely illegal. The standard magazine for a Russian AK holds 30 rounds. I don't think they used any lower capacity mags. Are you sure that what he has isn't a Russian SKS with a 10-rd fixed magazine? If so, its a great rifle (I have one), but even pristine ones will set you back 300-350 bucks on its best day. Try to get a little more info...I really doubt its a true Russian/Soviet AK...but who knows? - Brickboy240

Best ask him for a few pics of the rifle and the markings. Post them here for the team to review.

Actually, Saigas are Russian AKs. A small batch of Type 1 AKs came to this country in the mid 60s. They had milled receivers and the third hole was welded up. A few Russian kits came here too, the same time German MPi-AK-47s came here.....
Brickboy is right though....even if its a russian kit gun, its not worth the money unless Ted Marshall built it and the receiver.....

The story that I was told was this:
My friend is an ex-LEO. A woman he knows has a son who was in Desert Storm, and brought back this AK. His mother was worried that he was about to go "Postal", so she took it from him, and gave it to my friend to sell and get rid of it. I can't verify it, it's just what I was told. Glad it's out of the poor fella's hands. Maybe it is a selective fire. Doesn't matter, I can't afford it anyhow. Oh well. Slim |
