A L1A1 is a inch pattern FAL most likely a parts kit put together by a shop or somebody using there own receiver.
Most all parts are interchangeable between the metric and inch variants but not all, I personally don't care for the inch pattern they seem to have issues there are some that cycle fine. If you are wanting a FrankenFAL go for a STG58 or get one put together by DSArms $$$ But back to you original question about $700 in very good condition and if you can check the feed/function before you lay out your money FAL parts are getting harder to get but the STG58 I had was 100% I sold it off to fund another project which turned into a SA M1A

I sold mine for $500 I think Less then a year ago, It was a CAI one. Some parts were metric and some were inch. Had a Hesse Receiver.
Was a POS. Got a CETME instead.

I am debating this too as DSA FAL costs a lot of money, more than I think a rifle should cost. But then again I have forked over some serious cash for some handgun before.
I am also concern about ammo cost as .308 cost a truck load to shoot since I don't reload. I have always wanted a FAL so it is a cat and mouse game all over again. I can't seem to find someone selling CETME in VA for some reason. |

A FAl will cost about the same. You can build one for a little less and will be just as good or better than DSA...I had a Century built Imbel FAL 'tuned' for $75 (+$16 shipping) and can walk the dog on anything DSA has to offer...
