Question 380acp Vs Xd 9 Mm?

I am new to handgunning and recently purchased a XD 9 MM which I love. I also own a bereta Model 84FS in 380ACP ( CCW/Nightstand duty ) Any opinions about the Pros/Cons of the two calibers would be appreciated. Thanks!

9mm is more powerful than .380acp, but both can save your life.

.380's tend to be smaller and fairly convenient for pocket carry. The 9mm is a more powerful round and you tend to have more choices in self defense rounds.

Look at em head on and they are exactly the same size. Look at em from the side and the 9mm is 2mm longer.

So you get more bullet weight and more powder to propel the 9mm round. The cost? The gun has to be bigger. The 9mm gun just barely fits in a pocket. It is hard to yank out of the pocket compared to the .380 pocket gun.

The net effect is that you can bring the .380 up faster and fire first with it compared to a 9mm in the pocket. But you sacrifice mass and power to get the nice fit in the pocket and quicker retrieval.

Some might think that a fraction of a second of fire first advantage is worth giving up the extra energy. It's a personal decision. Quite frankly, if they had a 9mm that was the same size as a Keltec P3AT I would have one. But they don't, so I have a P3AT. I guess if you have real big pockets you can get a PF-9 or a Kahr or other 15-20 oz class gun.

For me I like the 12 oz class to backup my big ole XD-45 which weighs about triple the P3AT.

Same size and capacity as a P3AT, but in 9mm.
Downside: $$$

And the R9 is 12.9 oz unloaded versus the P3AT at 11.1 oz loaded. So once again... it is a good bit heavier and you are looking at triple the cost.

I'd carry it with pleasure You really do get what you pay for. As tiny as that is, it's a 9mm that can go anywhere in my front pocket.

God I need to save up
