Full moon 9mm clips with Ruger GP100?

I have a new Ruger GP 100 in .357 magnum. Manual says it can fire .38 Special and .357, of course.

But I also have some 9mm Wolf ammo sitting in storage. If I find some full-moon clips, can I use this 9mm ammo without having to have a gunsmith ream out the cylinder?

Do folks do that?

eh...

.357/.38 is .357" barrel diameter
9mm is .355" barrel diameter

Without having tried that, im gonna go out on a limb and say thats a bad idea...

I'm doubting that the full moon clip will have the necessary clearance to even get the revolver to close without damaging it, not to mention the steel case will not give so you risk damaging the recoil sheild, but if destroying a 450 dollar revolver doesnt matter to you go ahead.

The barrel is not an issue as per the link below:

http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firear...ariation=Blued

Apparently, 9mm works in this model .357's barrel just fine.

However, I think the cylinder is different, so was just wondering if the moon clip could support the case rim in a GP100 without problems.

I'll call Ruger today and get a definitive answer; that's probably the best thing to do. I'm sure they've been asked this before.

UPDATE: Called Ruger; they're not sure and don't advise it, or at least will not warrant it. Checked the internet some more, and a few companies will machine a cylinder to accept moonclips, but nothing on using an unsupported moonclip.

Bottom line: Appears .357 barrels will handle 9mm, but cylinders require some work. Probably not worth it just to use up a few hundred rounds of 9mm.
