XD9 to HK USP .40
Okay gang, I'm looking at the USPf .40 with a Safety and decocker to be my night stand gun.
I have a XD9 Service, and I know comparing a hammer fired DA/SA with a safety and decocker to a SA only striker fired pistol in a different caliber, isn't easy... but wile I'm waiting on the State to approve my application for the USP, does anyone have any experience with both weapons?

I have fired all models of both weapon. I honesly like the USP alot, but they do not fall back on target as well as the XD's do in my opinion. USP's are very nice weapons and you can't ask for much more than Heckler and Koch, I just don't like them as much as some of the other pistols out there. The 1911 is far superior for the money.
A good friend of mine had a usp that he used for target shooting for several years. When he traded it off for an XD the thing almost felt like it was going to fall apart, the slide was clunky and loose. Maybe he mistreated it but shouldn't a handgun be able to take some abuse? |

Heh when presented with the choice of getting another gun I could have got an H&K or a SIG or anything else I wanted but I opted to keep my XD and get something to have fun with.
I have too much trust wrapped up in my XD to rely on anything else.

humm... I wanted something completely different. I looked very hard at the M&P, even rented it (twice), and loved it. It's every bit of a fine shooter at the XD is, with (for me) a slightly better grip. But I wanted something... nice, but with in my budget.

For only a night stand gun, either is a fine choice. HOpefully you'll never have to use your nightstand gun.
However, since you're already familiar with the XD, and it's a superior pistol, (nothing wrong with H&K either), I don't see why you'd want to swap out. You're nightstand gun will have to be utilized while in the dark and under an extreme amount of stress (you should really practice a real world scenario in the dark with it). If you swap out, you'll have to become intimate with the H&K for it to be reliable. If you're accurate with the XD, keep it, it's a fine weapon. If you're having problems with the XD when at the range, you will honestly not llikely be any better than the H&K. If you were looking for a range gun, nothing wrong with the H&K. But since you have a nightstand gun already, keep the XD 9 or upgrade to the XD 45. Otherwise, buy ammo, a quality flashlight or some night sights, and take it to the range to practice, practice, practice.

I used a Beretta 92f for the last 14yrs of my career and bought the gun when I retired. As you know, it has the safety on the slide.
Notwithstanding this, I had no problem switching over to the XDSC as my ccw and nightstand gun. I still like shooting the 92f at the range, but my XD has the TruGlos TFOs, so they are great for the day/night. Of course, your druthers may be different. |

Because all the ones I like are $1000+ I looked very hard at a Springfield GI model... I'm still thinking that may be next. But I want a 10/22 for my son, and I want high grade K98, and a Remington 700, and a 30-30... I also want another good Mossburg (I have a 20, need a 12)... and CX4 in 9mm, etc... So many guns, so little money.
