Thumbs up Stuck bore brush's in .223 AR bbl.s

I notice in reading another firearm forum that some new people to the .223 AR have been getting their bore brushs stuck in their ARs bbl.

First off buying a real .223 bronze bore brush is important. Next first shooting some Breakfree CLP down the bbl. and letting it soak a while is helpful.

Now using a one (1) piece coated cleaning rod like a Dewey rod you soak the .223 bronze bore brush in Hoppes bore solvent and get it started down the bbl.

Now comes the trick as it becomes hard to push just stand the bbl. upright with the cleaning rod still installed in the bbl.and softly tap the handle end on a hard surface like the floor. "putting a small hard rubber pad on floor helps"

When the brush is all the way through your bbl. you will find pulling it back out is much easer then pushing it down the bbl.

You never want to try pulling the bore brush back out if it's halfway down your bbl. this will really cause problems and may get it stuck solid.

Hope this helps someone stay out of trouble cleaning their new ARs bbl.

Only thing I do different is I push the rod from the receiver end towards the muzzle end, once it's through the barrel I then unscrew the bore brush off of the rod and pull the rod back through. Mainly because I have the varminter AR-15 which has a crowned barrel. Plus by doing this your not dragging the gunk back into the receiver.

I did the same thing in an AK once....but I shot it out with a blank round-never ever, under any conditions do this...it blew the top cover off, shot out the return spring, sheared the rivets in the rear trunion and moved the trunion back a 1/4 inch...it was one of my "Hold my beer and watch this moments" from years ago (3)....I did get the barrel clear, though, along with my bladder and intestines...

Including a bore guide, that's the method I use with my Predator
