Savage .17 HMR at Walmart?
Anyone here own one? I was buying some ammo at Wally World yesterday and saw it up on the rack for $169.00.
It looks like a rabbit killin' mofo I thought at that price, I might go pick it up today, but I don't know anything about that model, good or bad. What say you?

If they had one around here with the accutrigger for that kind of money, I'd snap it up. Matter of fact, I'd buy one for each of my grandsons as well. I wouldn't care which model it was.
OlGord ps- The Wal Mart here is closing out older models and models they will not carry this next year. Remington 710 packages are 275.00, in .243 only, Remington 700 in .270, 30.06 and 7mm for the same money.

It's the funnest gun you'll ever own. I would try and get it with a varmint barrel though, and the accutrigger. Mine was non-accutrigger, and I had to replace it with a Rifle Basix trigger. It sure is fun to put big jackrabbits down at 100-150 yards with one shot. Just a bang-flop. Savages are great.

Heavy barrel or light?
Wood stock or synthetic? Accu-Trigger or not? I paid $169 for my synthetic, heavy barreled, non-accutrigger about 4 years ago when the .17 HMR first came out. Put a $49 Tasco 6-24x scope on it. I had a lot of vertical stringing at first with mine. I glass bedded it myself and the problems disappeared. Great rifle and way more accurate than a rifle of that price should be. Easily, consistently shoots 3/4" 5 shot groups at 100 yards. Usually with 4 shots touching and 1 spreading the group out. I'd prefer the wood or laminate stocked version. ![]()

I don't know any of the specs on it, I am having a hard time finding any. All I know is it has a synthetic stock and blued barrel. Model number is 93R17. No one who works at the Walmart can tell me anything about it. How can I tell if it has a heavy barrel or accutrigger on it?

If it's a 93R17V, it has a varmint barrel. If the trigger has a blade that slides in the middle of it, it's an accutrigger.
And from what I can tell from RimfireCentral, the odd shot out is an ammo thing.

If it's got iron sights it's a NON-varmint bbl. If it has ONLY scope bases, it's a Varmint bbl. |

From Savage's web site: http://www.savagearms.com/rimfire_home.htm 93R17F = Blued, Synthetic, thin barrel. ![]() 93R17FV = Blued ,Synthetic, thick barrel (Stainless shown) ![]() 93R17G = Blued, Wood, thin barrel 93R17GV = Blued, Wood, thick barrel ![]() SS means stainless steel B means laminated stock. 93R17BVSS = Laminate, Thick Barrel, Stainless Steel ![]() T means Thumbhole Stock 93R17BVTSS = Laminate, Thick Barrel, Thumbhole, Stainless Steel ![]() All of the new ones should have the Accutrigger on them. Look at the rifles trigger, if it has a blade in the center, kind of like a Glock or XD trigger does then it has the Accutrigger on it. No blade in the center and just a regular old metal looking trigger means it has the old style trigger. Accutrigger: ![]() If it has the old style trigger don't fret too much. You can shim them up and replace the trigger spring pretty easily to bring the pull weight down.
