Are Heritage Arm's SA revolvers junk?

Want a .22 SA plinker and see that Heritage Arms "rough rider" models with both 22LR and .22mag cylinders can be had for under $200

Would I be throwing my money away on one of these or should I save up another $100-120 for a Ruger Single Six.

Basically i just want something that can kill cans, apples, and the occasional squirrel and that won't fall apart.

well ive owned a couple over the years, they work and seem to me ok for the money , i never had a problem with any of them , the ruger of course is a lot more gun both cost an material they are a lot heavier made, and will last forever, id say if cost is the factor get a heritage you may wantto look into a used ruger MKII i have seen them for the 150 -200 range many of times, as with the single six, another option unless you were wanting a singleaction model look at a taurus model 94 revolver in 22lr they are a nice plinker , comes in 4in and i think 6in barrels, 9shot revolver, also a great plinker ,is the walther P22 which i have one now and they are sweet , they also sortof resemble a xd in a practice sense , as for the 22mag cylinder i am sure i would pay the extra for one , the cost for 22 mag is crazy last i bought was 11bucks a box bit much for can killin , hope this helps,

A HA Rough Rider was the first gun I ever bought for myself (not the first gun I ever owned). I bought it new for $150. I had it for 3 years or so and then traded it off. I had a lot of fun spinning it and twirling it, dropping it a few times. It always held up. If I came across one of their short barrel birdshead 22's for $150 or so NIB I'd snatch it up. Seems like a unique little revolver.

So, I'd never pay $200 for one, but I'd pay $125-$150 for one again. They're a lot more cowboy-ish than a single six.

I have a nice Stainless Rossi DA revolver that shoots pretty good. I got it from Dad. I don't think it is made anymore?

I will have to look up the Model when I get home.

I bought mine used about 10 years ago and it is a fun little thing to shoot. If you get one don't fan it like in the old west movies. When I did it locked up and I could not get the hammer to drop. When I brought it in to the gunsmith and explained the problem. he just got a little smile on his face looked at me and said "thought you were the Lone Ranger didn't ya" I smiled and said yes. He said look around and come back in 15 minutes I did and it was all fixed. He said he gets 3 or 4 of them a year in the shop and the new part is pretty cheap so he keeps a few of them on hand. But since then there have been no problems. So I would say if you are looking for a basic can killer go for it, but if you want to play wild west put together a few more $$$$$ and get the Ruger. Just my observations take it for what it's worth.

IMO Absolutely not. These are fun "low priced" guns.

The down side. You will shoot a lot on .22 ammo.
