In search of factual ballistic info

I am tired of hearing BS at the range or from people who feel they know everything about ballistics. I am so sick of hearing from some idiot claim that a 9mm can only wound and "So and So" knows a guy who was shot with X round and barley felt it.

I am in search of a factual and accurate ballistic info. Can anyone suggest a solid read, hopefully in print that is a strong source?

if you're looking for decent "backyard ballistics" I.E what a round can do look here

http://www.theboxotruth.com/

If you want ballistic load data go down to your local sporting goods store and pick up a reloading manual. It will tell you the velocity and energy of various loads in different calibers.

LoL. I had a buddy that REGULARLY used to try to tell me that 9mm wouldn't cause enough pain to be an "effective stopper". I got so fed up with it I told him there was $500 bucks in cold hard cash for him if he would shoot himself with 2 rounds of any commercially available center fire OR rim fire pistol caliber center of mass and walk away from it without having to go to the hospital.

That ended that discussion really fast.

there is alot of info out there on ballisitics, but i think you are looking for a diffrent type,

try talking to a mortician in a big city that is going to be your best info, i read on a message board or something about a mortician that was pro gun etc and you would be supprised as to what he had to say. about differnt calibers, bullet sizes, types. ie hollow points acting like hardballs and hardballs doing the damage of hollowpoints, etc etc etc.

IIRC he was a mortician in ATL with and saw alot of gang shootings etc so he would see all kinds of calibers, wierd stuff done to bullets etc stuff like that it was a really good read.

sidenote i do remeber him saying the 9mm did not perform well as in the bodies had more bullet holes in them LOL and the ones hit with .357 had less bullet holes!!

none of it was scientific just all his obersvations as a mortician in a big city!

LOL think about it for a moment there will probably be more bullet holes in someone shot with a 9mm because most 9's carry alot more than 6 rounds and people in high stress situations tend to shoot untill a gun is empty. Any solid calliber 9mm and above with modern hollow points will kill quickly with center mass shots or shots to the central nervous system. Even a .22 long rifle will do the job with a well placed shot. Ask the Massad what they use for hits. I personally carry either a .40 S&W or a .45 acp but in a pinch would not feel under gunned with a quality 9mm. In fact I carry a 9mm Beretta for a duty weapon. The key is hitting what you shoot at and using quality ammo.

There's lots of good reading here if you want a little bit more scientific stuff than Box O' Truth.
