Colt King Cobra?
So I stopped by my friendly neighborhood gun store, and I walked into a colt revolver collection someone had just brought in. There were a number of colt "snake guns" roughly 8 in all. The one that really caught my eye was the King Cobra 4inch. The gun is in great shape and looks mint. The guy wants $750 for it. How does this price sound? I made an offer of $700 but I dont want to risk losing this gun. Any input would be great!
Thanks Nick |

It all depends on who you ask and where you live. Colt revolvers are nearly impossible to come by, and if I could find one in great shape for around 700 I'd jump on it in a heartbeat. S&W revolvers are great, and have a good history, but there's something that sets Colts apart. They have great triggers, graceful lines, and in a nutshell are some of the best revolvers to ever see the light of day. JMHO

Yes, Colt revolvers are hard to come by. Even a ratty Trooper sells for at least 500 bucks these days. Pythons? Forget it...800 bucks for a ratty one if you're lucky.
My Dad has an 8 inch Anaconda 44 mag and it is a dream to shoot. Very low recoil (for a 44mag), silky smooth action and deadly accurate. Typical Colt looks - a stunner that is very well finished and a handsome, heavy, big pistol. The King Cobra was a pretty good pistol. It was never as popular as its competitors; the Smith 686 or Ruger GP-100 mainly because it was not produced in as large numbers and it was more expensive. The King Cobra did not seem to have to problems the Python had of coming out of time easily, but it never really caught on. It was heavier and more expensive than the 686 Smith or GP-100 Ruger, but it had a smooth action and Colts' great build quality. I'd say, if it appeals to you...try to talk them down to 650 and grab it. A Colt revolver is never a bad investment. - Brickboy240

There is usually a python or two on consignment at the small shops around here. (So Cal) They are almost always $1000+.

The short barreled Cobras and Pythons bring VERY high prices. Maybe Colt did not make that many..I dunno.
Again..any Colt revolver is worth owning and will never go down in value. Every Colt revlover I have ever shot was amazingly accurate. I have my Grandfather's 1963 Colt Detective Special snubbie in 38Spl. Its nickel plated in good shape and I have the box and receipt where he bought it in 1963. Wanna guess what thats worth? I don't know but I'd never sell it. - brickboy240

Great revolvers!! Built like a tank, smooth as silk and extremely accurate, they are also built around the more modern Colt revolver design as the Anaconda was.
Mine was the first revolver I ever bought, it’s still going strong and I still enjoy shooting it at the range. ![]() I added an Anaconda in 44mag earlier this year and it was marked at $975, the price for Colt revolvers is only going to go up. ![]()

Well Im waiting to hear back on the offer. Heres what all the guy brought in. The King Cobra, One OK Python ($1100) One perfect Python in a display box ($2400) One anaconda in 45 long colt ($1000) 2 unfired un turned Cobra's one in 38 and one in 357 ($700 each)
I think the blued pythons go for way more than the stainless. |
