Reliable .22 lr on a semiauto platform?
anyone have a suggestion for a reliable .22 lr handgun that looks like a semiautomatic pistol? i've done some research on the Walther P22 and Sig Mosquito only to find too many unfavorable reviews to consider getting one of them.
i'm looking to pick one up for my female roomie, who dislikes kick of anything more than a .22. she really likes the looks of semiauto pistols, so i'm curious if there is a dependable one out there. cost is a factor; i'd like to keep it under $400. if not, i'm probably going to pick up a Ruger 22/45 or Browning Buckmark, which i know have a great rep. i did a search, but b/c the site won't let you search for 3-digit phrases (like .22), i came up with either way too many irrelevant threads or way too few. thanks for any input! you really can't go wrong with Ruger MKIII(mo MkII. you can still find reft over MKII at great price if you look. i found one recently - shelf model for $229. should have bought it)
I had 22/45, which I had feeding issues with (its not common with those pistol mind you. Mine must been a freak). I now have P22. I understand about few issues with them, but after do some simple fix, they are pretty good, aas i never had any feeding issue, and mine isn't picky about ammo either(Except it don't like subsonic). If i were to do it again, I'm gonna go with MkIII Bull barrel stinless 5.5" barrel |

Mity is right, when it comes to 22 pistols, the Ruger MK-series and the Browning Buckmark rule the roost. If you mean you want something that looks more like a beretta or glock than the luger-ish Ruger, you might want to look at the CZ Kadet. It can be bought for around $300 and is the same size and weight as a CZ75.

If looks are a priority, the CZ 75 Kadet (like Polymerhead said) would be well worth looking at:

For plinking the P22 wih the red dot scope. I've had no problem shooting Blazer ammo through it.

Buckmark or Ruger. just get whichever the lady likes most
I have both and cant decide which I like more. Ive also owned a p22. After the two above, I would only buy one as a novelty plinker. I would basically mod it and run it to the ground. That doesnt mean its crap or wont work, but the rugers and brownings are above and beyond the P22 and basically cost the same.

I've been looking into semi-auto .22s for some time and I really like the Mosquito but the reviews, like you said, are less than desirable. I like the look of the CZ though. I didnt know they made a .22.

If you can find a High standard in good condition they're great shooters too. My best friend has one in .22lr and one in .22 short. Both are more accurate than the both of us and a hell of a lot of fun.

There is a + also to the Ruger 22/45. There is a device called an "Ultimate Clip Loader" that speeds up loading the mags. You put 50 rounds in it, then insert the mag and pull it out. It supposed to only take a few seconds to load the 10 round mag.
I wish they made it for the new MK III Hunter that I have, but the mags are different. I'm going to try and find some kind of mag accessory for it. Anyone know of any. Not trying to steal your thread, buy the Ruger. |
