A budget range will yield more options. I've owned a few Savages in the past and while they shoot well...the actions are terrible. I like the adjustable part of the accutrigger, but to me the trigger itself feels cheap.
Tikka actions are very smooth and so are their triggers. I just don't feel that accuracy is up to par with the Savages and Remingtons. I've owned two Tikka T3 Lites and while I loved the action and trigger...I was not overly impressed with accuracy. If you go Tikka...I say get the varmint or "tactical" models. Another thing I dislike about Tikka is the plastic mags are too darn expensive. Remingtons have tons of aftermarket parts. The triggers are easy to work on or you can replace the entire trigger with a Timney or another good quality trigger. I like the Remington action and can say that my 5R shoots as well or better than my Savage 10FPs. Also worth noting are the Steyr rifles. I have an SBS Tactical McMillan and that thing will shot sup .5 MOA. Howa rifles are also good for those on a budget. |

I've got the Savage 10fp in .308 and love it. While this model is to heavy to tote around hunting other models would suit your needs. Highly recommend a Savage for a budget rifle.

A comparison
These are some sobering "blocked barrel" tests.

I have two Remington 700s. One in .308 and the other in .204. Very accurate up to 300 yards (longest range at the club). I redid the trigger pull on both. Very please.

cz.I have one with a full stock and wouldn't trade it for anything.I think cz rifles and pistols are one of the best deals going. The prices have gone up lately as they have gained popularity.

I love my Savage 10FP but if I didn't need ultra accuracy and didn't want to build out a Rem 700 I'd go CZ 550. The single set trigger and finish is awesome.
