got a new toy
long time no post.. been rather busy of late, and finally purchased a new gun
![]() ![]() its in really good shape, i disassembled it it and cleaned the snot out of the barrel. i just gotta order some ammo for it. which i do have a question about. a budy of mine was reading in an old G&A that you could actually use a .308 round in this rifle, due to the round being so similar. i'm rather leary of that info, and wont be trying it for myself... has anyone else heard of this? or even tried it? cheers!

Is it a Nagant? If so the rounds aren't similar at all.

If that is a Mosin Nagant, it uses a rimmed cartridge which is designated 7.62x54R and it kicks pretty good when shooting

NO! No 308 Winchesters in that rifle. The M44 mosins is chambered for thr 7.62x54R round only.
Some Mosins (not M44s) were converted to the 8x57 Mauser round by the Germans after WWI, but those were dangerous as well. The Mosin action is not up to those pressures of the 308 or 8x57mm. The Mosin action also does not handle overpressured loads as well as the 98 Mauser and you could seriously injure yourself even trying this. Stick to 7.62x54R ammo in th M44 Mosin only...unless you dig having a chunk of bolt sticking out of the side of your face. Seriously, this is not a safe thing to try. I know the Mosin's bore is .311 and the 308 is smaller but this does not mean somehting very bad can't happen if you try it. I am also not sure that a Mosin would chamber or set off a 308 round - they're not all that similar. Still...forget this idea and shoot it as it was intended. - brickboy240

The two cartridges are similar in ballistics but not in case dimensions.
Check Academy they should have some in stock.

Can't remember what it was priced. I think it was Monarch, and Wolf brands.
