This is what I did....
Get some blocks of wood and clamp that barrel in a vice and use the wood to save your barrel. I clamp mine under the handguards so even if you mess up the finish its under the grips. take some wd40 and spray the FSB down. get it all over the place. now tap the FSB to the left or right to free it up. Just tap it - not hit it. once you break it lose tap the FSB toward the muzzle, keep it lubed with the wd40 to keep the scratches down. If it still wont move...once its in a vice use a heat gun. The flash hider should come off when its in the vice. if it wont use heat

What length ar do you have? Some flash hiders are permanently attached to bring the rifle length to the legal 16".

Lots of WD-40 and some patience, mine took a little rocking back and forth to loosen it up then kept the barrel nice and drenched with WD to keep it from marring. The flash hider is a little bit of a pain but remember if you're looking straight down the business end of the barrel (I won't state the obvious) then you'll be turning that flash hider counter clockwise to loosen it. I'm guessing you're going to install a quad rail handguard or something? If you are be prepared this may or may not happen to you too but I just installed one on my Bushmaster about three or four months ago and the barrel nut was a major PITA, I had to freeze the pig to get it to come off and it still wasn't easy.

You do, it is a Federal requirement. I own a 14.5" SBR and I got my tax stamp. I was making a general comment about flash hiders in general. Some may be pinned. Sorry for any confusion.

I am a former AR owner. On most ar's the barrel is already 16" and the flash hider extends past that, this kind is removable. On some the barrel is shorter and the flash hider is permanently attached to bring the rifle out to the legal 16". Everyone has to pay the federal tax stamp for anything shorter than 16".
