Colt .45 COMMANDER

I dont know much about this pistol but a guy I know is selling one for $650, would this be a fair price? Here are the specs as stated in the sale:

"FOR SALE:
COLT 45 MODEL# 04091U SEMI AUTO M1991A1 COMMANDER
4.25" BARRELL MATTE STAINLESS STEEL W/HOGUE GRIPS.
EXCELLENT CONDITION! $650."

Not a bad price...not a complete steal, either. The Hogue grips and the fact that it does not look like it was shot/caried all that much makes it a decent deal. Colts tend to hold their value, so you really can't go wrong.

Excellent pistol...you'll love it!

+1 on what BrickBoy said.

What strikes me odd is that the frame almost looks like a lightweight frame. Maybe it is just the way they did the 1991 stainless vs. the MKIV Series 80 and the current series 80.

Every "M1991" marked Colt 1911 I have seen had a steel frame like my old Combat Commander.

Its amazing how chopping only 3/4 of an inch off the front can make such a nice handling piece...but it does. Any Colt shorter than this and you're asking for reliability problems.

IMO thats a little high for a 1991.I see them alot for around $500-$550.Havent looked in awhile but gunbroker.com is a good place to check prices. If it were a Colt MKIV 1911 70 or 80 then that would a GOOD deal. But thats just me.

The 1991A1 stainless finish isn't as pretty as the MkIV or the XSE
The SS will fetch a bit higher price than the matt "blue" 1991A1, so $650 in ex cond for todays prices isn't that bad.
