So what did you pay for that? It's one of the scopes I'm looking at for F Class. I've heard that Pentax makes Burris glass, and Burris builds Pentax scopes.

I got it on one of Cameralandny.com 's show special sales. does a tick over 400 sound too cheap? I have the mildot reticle and it has the side parallax adj. Haven't really stretched it at all as I am still breaking the bbl in on the rifle. I will say that I've sighted at objects 800 yds away and been able to clearly see things n critters the size of a groundhog in the weeds quite clearly. Haven't even attempted a shot over 100 yds yet tho. Still need to bed the action and finish the bbl break in. I also must say this thing has absolutely incredible light gathering. I can go out close to dusk and still see a clear picture out to 600 yds easy.

My Burris is only a 1" tuibe, but it's glass is incredibly clear too. Plenty of light for most shooting situations unless you are hunting late evening or early morn.

I've been looking at some 4-16's on closeout on the Cameraland site. Tempting. I just can't figure out their nomenclature on reticules.

If your budget is $100, you will absolutely not find a better piece of glass than the Simmons Whitetail Classic. Just check out their reviews, and the 6.5-20x is perfect for varmints. It's right at $100.

$300 opens it way up - I'd be looking at a Leupold Rifleman, or a used VX-II maybe. There are also good options from Burris, SuperSniper and others.

With cheap scopes you loose light gathering ability, you increase mirage, and you loose repeatability in your adjustments when you adjust for bullet drop and windage. If your only shooting 300 yards with the .22-250, you can get by without a fancy sniper type scope. That round is fast enough that the 300 yard drop will only need you to aim at the top of its head versus its body. Dont overlook leupold too, they have some pretty affordable optics. Im going to be taking a hard look at leupold and burris myself. I put a leupold on my shotgun and I can tell you that I can see as much through it as duck or more, than I can see with my naked eye.

What about the Simmons 2.8-10x44 Aetec Master Series Rifle Scope

http://www.swfa.com/pc-4714-704-simm...fle-scope.aspx

The only reason I ask is that I have one here at a local dealer who wants me to pay $175.00 for it.

Is there WAY better for that price?

I'd like to throw Mueller optics in the mix as well...they've got some great pieces of glass around the $100-150 mark.

IMHO, some of the best "budget" scopes on the market right now.

Fritzmeister, you might want to also read this link. It gives an explanation of reticle and shows some different type of reticles. I thought it was interesting myself.

I consider myself pretty ignorant about scopes and such. After reading this article, I'm a little less ignorant.

Good read. I have been doing some looking and research, because, I am also no scope expert. I have need of an illumminated reticle, because when I go coyote hunting, I am sure that it will be at least very dim if not at night. I have a 20,000,000 candle power spotlight that I got for Christmas last year from my parents. Apparently the IR jacks the price up for me with all the other things I want, from affordable to expensive. It's a choice I have to make as to the features I really want and how much I am truly willing, or able to spend on glass.

All suggestions are welcome, so don't stop adding them. I know that this might help others that are looking too.

thanks everybody
